Thanks, think I'll pass on wacking it ouch!! So what kind of doctor should I see about it? I don't really have a gp that I go too, is there anyone in particular who deals/specializes in them perhaps? tia
Any GP will deal with whatever it is! Head down to DLC in Jumeriah, they have everything on site and could have you sorted in an hour!
I had one on my right hand on & off for years? I then had it drained in the uk & has not returned for years. Banging is an old wives tale, hit it slightly incorrectly & you will cause a lot of damage & also pain. Stay clear of that action.
I had one on my hand and by the time my hospital appointment came through to get it removed it had gone!! My GP told me that he used to do the boook thing but isn't allowed to anymore lol
I might just get someone to look at it, because I'm a bit worried it will get bigger .... after I have my hip op on the same side, I have read you can get swollen ankles for a while after and wonder if this will grow aswell???
I had one removed 30 years ago on my wrist. It grew back eventually about 12 years ago. As said below, it comes and goes, sometimes hurts, most times does not...sometimes big, most times cant see it :). It all depends on what you are doing. Pushups or leaning on that wrist or keeping it bent, hurts...anyway, if it isnt broke, dont fix it lol...the ones in feet all depends where they are. A bit trickier I would think. Oh, and dont whack it with a book, that only hurts, alot and does nothing :)

"Pretty Sure" isn't sure enough :D You need to have it x-rayed before you start whacking it with a book. Make sure to get a real diagnosis soon. Something that you have had for a long time that wasn't painful and now it is should be checked out. Then if it IS a ganglion cyst-- whack away! Or you could just use warm compresses. But I wouldn't use anything at all until you get it x-rayed.
I have one on my wrist, it's not painful so after consulting with my doc in the UK I decided to leave it and not have it operated on. It tends to grow and shrink, and currently it seems to have disappeared.
I think the main risk with getting it operated on is that it is not necessarily a permanent solution- so the question is if it's worth going through it all with a high risk of it reappearing.
I have one on a wrist and one on a foot and have not had anything done. Have had them for more than 9 years.
People used to smash them with heavy books. You risk fracturing bones, of course.
They remove them surgically, but the cysts can grow right back. I know two people who've had them removed and they grew back. I'd ask a GP for a referral if mine were painful.
Has anyone had one of these, I'm pretty sure that's what i have on my foot, its be there for ages but not its starting to hurt, who do you go see to get rid of it? TIA
