because it is some where different to go to... and not everyone can afford to travel to all the different countries at Global Village. Yes some are not very authentic ( eg Singapore) but its still a fun place to go and explore and better than going to a shopping mall. For the most part, the only "authentic" thing about these stalls is the sellers happen to be from that country. Other than that, they're all selling similar items. I personally don't understand the hype about Global Village, anything you can get there you'll find at the mall, dragonmart, or during your travels....for similar prices. edited by Genkigirl on 01/04/2013

Went last night most stalls full of tat that have nothing to do with country they are meant to represent. Tunisia had lovely pottery and Greece and Spain had nice olive oil as did Tunisia. It got very busy by 7. Too many buggies in smal spaces. India was nice and more spacious. I shopped more than I did last year. Definitely check out Turkey for the pretty crockery, Spain for good quality (and yet cheap) Saffron, Saudi Arabia for cheap scarves (after you bargain) and Pakistan for reallyyy nice antique style wood furniture and colorful summer foot wear (called Kolapuris).

I always go to turkey (bought dessert bowls), morocco (urn) and africa. Liked paintngs at iraq and antique jewelley and handicrafts at jordan. Also rugs and jewelery in Afghanistan. edited by Homeward Bound on 30/03/2013

Opens at 4pm, don't think there is a ladies day but Monday is family day if that helps. Haven't been in previous years so have nothing to compare it with, but I enjoyed it. Thought the entertainment was good and wished I could have stayed a bit later to see more of that (had DD with us so bed time was approaching). And I enjoyed wandering round all the pavillions and bought a few bit with a notion to go back and haggle for a few other things. Didn't go near the fairground as DD too young really.

I went in December with family who had come over to stay for Christmas. No Ladies day but they do a family day on a Monday. Shows were good, funfair which the kids really enjoyed is expensive one token = 5AED and most rides were at least 2 tokens. My brother and his family loved it. If you have never been I suppose its a nice evening out. We got there for 5:30pm but I think it opens at 4.00pm. The entrance fee is 10AED but then you have to pay for everything else once you are inside.
