Hi ladies, we have friends coming out on Thursday he doesn't known yet his wife is bringing him for his 40th birthday as a surprise. She has asked me to organise something for his actual birthday on the Saturday night. She has suggested one of the evenings where you are outside in a sort of tent thing and you eat outside I am guessing these are held in the hotel grounds as you can see I am a bit clueless on how I go about booking something like this.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Many thanks:)

I started another thread but not really receiving a response. What I wanted to do was a very private desert safari for girlfriends. I've done a desert safari before and didn't like sharing the car, people were rude, others downright obnoxious. Same when we had dinner, rude, and once the alcohol started flowing it became worse. I know its silly to complain because I was aware it was a shared transport and dinner when I booked it, but can't imagine planning one of those safaris again. If anyone can recommend a company that provides private transport and tent, please advise. Good luck with the 40th party!

I'd probably allow about an hour, although it might take you slightly less, depending on traffic. There used to be a minibus that runs from Jumeira Beach Hotel to Bab al Shams, but I don't know if that runs any more. Might be worth checking. It only takes us 45 mins from our end of town (Meadows), easy journey. Oh, but that was before they shut the Al Khail roundabout.. Shouldn't think the bus runs from JBH as Bab al Shams is no longer owned by the Jumeirah group, I believe. Now part of the Meydan group, I think.

I did wonder about that too, Shamat, though it's not really under tents, either, is it? Mind you, what would be wonderful would be for the couple to stay the night at Bab al Shams after going to the Al Hadeerah restaurant, but that's more of an anniversary than a birthday thing to do, isn't it!

I wonder if what she saw was the Al Hadeerah restaurant at Bab al Shams? Its not especially romantic as it is always packed, but they do an Arabic show including belly dancers and the food is brilliant. Its not cheap though, or easy to get to unless you drive.

Thanks simpleasabc, that sounds lovely, I think it was something she saw on the tv they were all siting on very low seats cusions almost it looked like it was in the gardens of a hotel and I think a belly dancer may have made an appearance not quite to my taste though I must admit:)

I think Jebel Ali resort does a romantic dinner (for 2, but you can always ask for more, I imagine) on their beach: http://www.jebelali-international.com/promotions/restaurant/Dinner_under_the_stars.aspx Or do you think your friend means a desert safari: http://travel.theemiratesnetwork.com/to_do/dubai_desert_safari.php Enjoy!
