My hair got a little better and I have a few strands that fall off but I guess thats normal after shampooing and conditioning. My concern now is that am finding am thinning on top and always have to disguise it with a side parting. I have fine curly hair which i have a lot of; after washing it always has a volumn to it. Any of the treatments mention below will that help thinning on the crown?? TIA

ladies, stop with the old wives tales.... shampoo makes no difference to your hair loss, it just cleans it! I have some experience of hair loss and its best to get the correct advice from someone who knows. Doctors and Dermatologists only do about 2 hrs at med school on hair, so go and see a Trichologist. There is a new one in Dubai offering free consults to expat women and he/she has a full range of the correct supplements for your hair. How do I know? Like I say i struggled for years before going to see Kingsley in the UK. I think the one in Dubai used to work with him, so girls, go see them. There is so much rubbish and myths about hair out there!! Well, you seem to be very knowledgeable on this topic--thanks for the tips that there is a trichologist here in Dubai. For some that can't seem to get anything to work, that's a great idea. As for myself, since my hair loss (like many other ladies) is not genetic--I am having great results by taking my supplements and eating well, along with certain shampoos and conditioners. If your hair is already prone for whatever reason to falling out, the last thing that you need is tangled, dry hair. Mine was ripping out very easily due to comprised hair follicles and dryness. Do you have the number of this expert ???

Supplements work mainly in the case of female hair loss as 90% of the time it is not a genetic loss. Diet, hormones, stress and monthly cycle are the prime causes as well as there may be an underlying medical issue. You are righ in the fact about Elton and Wayne Rooney because their hair loss is most certainly genetic.

I'm just not convinced ANY pills, potions or lotions help. If they did, why would people with all the money in the world turn to extreme measures such as hair transplants (Elton John, Wayne Rooney et al). I do sympathise. For a woman especially, it must be a very stressful thing to go through.

Hi peeps! I don’t know a female in Dubai that hasn’t suffered from at least a little bit of hair loss, due to the climate, and water here  and unfortunately it is always a topic of conversation among me and my friends... so I started to experiment. I find that Spanish Garden Vitamin D shampoo ( I bought from carre4 ) has helped. I have to use more of it to wash my hair as I would a normal shampoo and I use it every second or third wash now, when I started, I used it every wash, and have been using it for a few months - It contains horsetail extract. I also tried taking horsetail supplements ... I don’t mean go and chew on a horse’s tail  Horsetail is a plant that helps to promote hair growth, that you can buy in health shops. I am well up for trying the egg and lemon thing though, I don’t mind having a yolky scalp if it helps haha!!

I've been suffering from hair loss ever since I moved to Dubai. Tried the Blu shower filter and while it improved hair quality, it didn't really effect my hair loss issue. Also tried using various shampoos etc that were recommended on the forum (Permea Plus Anti Sal etc). Went to see Dr Maryam at Medcare recently and she gave me a looong regime to follow that included buying some expensive products. The products were things I bought in a pharmacy so it didn't really feel like she was just trying to sell me stuff. Been doing it for two weeks now and I think it may be helping as I usually find a good 5 strands on my pillow every morning (I know, I actually count, that's how freaked out I am about it) but for the past four days there's been just one strand. Dr Maryam also recommended that I start a course of Mesotherapy - did my first one yesterday so will let you know how it goes!

Tacobelle it's really not so bad! And Desperate Housewives is back!! Well, it has aired in the states....I watched it on Fri! Yes the Blu shower filter is available at Ibn but I have also seen it in quite a few pharmacies recently too. Sorry to hear about the tooth- hope it won't be too long til the implant is ready!

In addition to the Phyto Pills, and product that softens my hair (so it doesn't fall out more from being tangled) I have had to be spot on with my nutrition--especially vitamins and minerals--I'm talking micronutrition. Increasing my salt intake, for one, really seems to help and of course drinking more water than ever before! Stress really strips the body of vitamins/minerals so until I can become a zen master, I'm supplementing :)

I still haven't egged up, afraid of omelette head maybe, will have to have a fortifying drink and wait for desperate housewives to come off hiatus and do it WHILST watching , it seems appropriate somehow. I am chugging down the pills however, and heard the blu filter is available at Ibn battuta mall, on the case ! Not going bald in Dubai ! I unwisely let a dentist here pull out one of my teeth at the front recently and have to wait for an implant, it's all just not a good look.......

OhToodles--They seems to improve the shine, diameter, and rate of new growth of my hair, and many gals I've recommended it to. For instance, when I used it for 5-6 months, the 3" that grew out in that time was noticeably healthier. I had more density at the scalp, and my hair didn't lay weird. If your hair is falling from breakage, it won't help. If it is falling from the root, this will help. Speaking of scalp health, I like to use an oil 1-2X a month at night (I use Olive). Then I do an apple cider vinegar rinse in the morning to rinse, followed by shampoo and conditioner. I do this to have less 'junk' compromising my scalp. One last thing--cortisol is THE biggest contributor here, I am fairly certain--in addition to the not so fab water.

Sorry Girls haven't been online for a few days. Lallie001 you're not the only one who didn't use the shower cap lol. I just assumed the egg is soo runny it would still trickle down so just wear a towel around my neck . And yes wash your hair like normal after the egg has dried off completely . I do wash it twice with a generous amount of shampoo just to get rid of as much of the eggy smell as possible. that reminds me, I am long over due for another "egg treatment" :) Please let me know what you girls think of it. Beebers do these pills cause the hair to grow back or just stop the hair from falling. The egg mix seems to have stopped my hair from falling but as i discovered it rather late i have a small area on the crown of my head where the hair is visibly very thin :( . I feel so conscious of it and was wondering if there was any way the hair would grow back.

Omg- I am laughing so hard right now! Didn't even think to use a shower cap!! Just put mixture on and tried not to move my head for an hour!! Started the pills today too so fingers crossed (they were behind the counter at chemist by aswaaq next to Kings School in case that helps anyone!). Have had the Blu showerhead for a couple of years now- definitely helped to begin with but hair still falling out in handfuls :(

My hair has been falling out in handfuls this last few weeks, so I bought the phyto pills toay, tracking down a shower head and egging/lemoning up tomorrow! I take it I just need to mix up the squeezed lemon with an egg and slap it on for an hours then shampoo off - with a disposable shower cap I am guessing. So glad there is a solution in sight,I didn't know what was going on

I purchased the blu showerhead and I have seen a massive difference. the water is softer, you can actually feel it and reduces hair loss. lots of poeple have been telling me to get this ( including the lady who cuts my hair ) and I purchased it and found it makes a great deal of difference.

Hi Lallie--they should be right next to the Phyto Shampoo on the shelf :) The line has a little "strip" of color coding on the box--I think these have the little red coding. Note: I have never seen this line at Boots--just the other local big chains. Good luck with your hair! These pills, plus the Davies' "Melu" line of shampoo and conditioner that I bought at the hair salon are the only things that have seemed to help!

Thanks for all this info everyone...I know there's loads of threads on this but found myself getting so down about it recently and these suggestions have come at just the right time. Trying the egg mix tonight and getting some phytophanere pills tomorrow!! Toodles, is it ok to wash your hair normally immediately after rinsing off the mix or is it best to wait? Beebers, are the pills behind the counter or on normal display in the pharmacy? (Before I spend an hour looking round like a mad woman!!) TIA :)

Phytophanere! I would have to think miracle pills :) B complex, some essential oils, they're awesome. 170 dhs for a 2 month supply. I had gotten them free when I was a skin care expert at Sephora--otherwise may have not tried them easily for the price. I took them 4 years ago for months to help with hair fall and such. The need arose again when I moved here, and lo and behold--they worked again! They are made by Phyto and available at Aster, most Al Manara pharmacies and the like. HIGHLY recommend. Have hope and good luck!

My hair had been thinning for a while but it got worse when we moved out here. Our maid would be horrified by the amount of hair she would find everyday when doing the cleaning. she recommended applying egg and lemon (yup sounded very yucky indeed) . After much persuasion and when she volunteered to apply the mixture herself i agreed :p. I was astonished by the results i saw the same day and couldn't stop thanking her. Hardly any hair on the floor or on the pillow the next morning:). I was supposed to repeat the applications once every week for at least 6 weeks (don't know why 6). I have only done it probably 3 times in 4 months or longer simply because i didn't feel the need and only actually did it when i noticed a FEW stray hairs lying around (no where near the amount i had at the beginning). I used one egg and one lemon, you have to use the mixture straight away as it gets very runny if left. Leave it on for at least an hour or until it has dried onto your hair. Don't wash it off with hot water or you will end up with scrambled egg in your hair:). Anyway It definitely stopped my hair from falling and i highly recommend it :) I tried it today!! Hope it will work for me too...Thanks a lot...

I have the same problem for more than a year ago, i can say i have now just the 40% of the hair i used to have, the condition went from dandruff to some pimples in my head, all combined with hair loss. I went to a dermatologist, a gastroenterologist , and everyone gave me a different reason for it... I bought water filters too...It didnt work I'm taking now some capsules called: Priorin and looks like the problem is less now... the doctor also recommend me eating healthier , less fat, more veggies , etc Edit to add: I'm also applying to my hair an infusion of Rosemary after i wash my hair... <em>edited by Colombiana on 29/12/2011</em>

I had this issue for a year now, and i swear i have lost more than half of my hair :( I have just recently started using hair vitamins from boots, Its for hair only (biotin (sp?) and B complex) and since then, its getting a bit better. you will need to see a Dr if its excessive though I am also using Mane n Tail shampoo and conditioner from Spinneys for quite some time, so I am waiting for the results to kick in now LOL good luck, I know how frustrating that can be, so try these things, eat healthy and stay away from stress!

Hi I know how you are feeling i had the same thing last year, and to make it worse acne. I went to see a homopathy discussed things, i felt i was off balance abit hormonal, feeling stressed but alot to do with my hair. I tried everything , went to a medical GP did the usual tests all ok, went to a dermatologist found i was lacking in Vitamin D so had a shot for that apparently it can cause hair loss. I even spent a fortune on keretase products and shower filters was willing to try anything. The Homopath was the best, gave me some tablets to take what she felt i was lacking in, lots of vit b for my mood. It didnt happen over night, but along with alot of lifestyle/diet changes 6 months on, i feel the best i can, spots gone, hairloss has stopped, still thinner but i dont think that can ever be reversed, but thank god it stopped, and i am 22 lbs lighter. i still take a daily supplement from her and daily zinc. I seen her in the Uk over the summer, but hopefully someone could give you a recommendation on here for a homopath. Hope that helps, its such a hard time, its our hair, it was killing me

I use the Anagen Serum capsules which were prescribed by my Doc. You apply after your shower direct to your hair. Highly recommend
