Hi there
I would like to open a bank account in my own name just in case something happens to DH and our joint account gets frozen. We have joint account in the "bank with the horse". Would you recommend opening the new account in the same bank ? or shall I look for another bank ? which one would be best ?
Thank you to all who could help me

we just moved here and this might be a silly question but I am American and my husband is British, we have a joint account but I wanted my own account, however have heard that all americans have to advise the US tax authorities of any bank accounts. I was only looking at an account with a bit of mad money, is this true? Yes this is true, you need to declare worldwide income and wealth to the US tax authorities. Sorry :(

You can open a "ladies account" with UNB and you don't have any fees for a ladies account. I don't think you need an NOC from memory, but if you call them I'm sure they'll give you all the info.

Thanks mrsg. That's what I thought, going to a different bank. Any idea what papers are needed ? Do I need a NOL from my husband ?

I have an account for the same reason. Mine is with ENBD - not the same as our joint account. We just didn't want to risk some faceless official here deciding to freeze both accounts if the worst happened.
