Ok, I have no clue when it comes to plants. But last weekend bought a nice looking fan palm from the plant souk. The guy there told me it need full sun, told me how to plant it etc. So dug a nice big whole, mixed the compost with a little sweet sand, added some fertilizer and have been watering it every day. I don't think I have over watered it, but the palms are turning brown. So no idea what I have done wrong, too much water, not enough or is it just burnt?

Any ideas?

Thank you so much for the link Abaddon. I think it may be transplant shock. At the same time I got a Phoenix Palm too, but I have left that in its pot and it is doing just fine. So will just stick with it, dying palms and all and fingers crossed it will recover.......

It sounds like the palm got transplant shock. It is common for palms to go through a transplant shock but there are ways to minimize it. you are supposed to slowly acclimate the palm in the area you want to transplant it to for a week or two while still in it's container. transplant shock also happens because the roots become exposed to air (and sun if transplanting during the day) when you remove it from it's container. I believe you should not have fertilized yet, as it also can cause the palm extra stress while it is getting used to it's new home. I have read before that it can take a few months to a year for it to get out of shock. I think you should consider joining this forum and asking about how to care for your palm now to try and help it out of shock: forums.gardenweb.com/forums/palms/ If you do, make sure to let them know the conditions it was kept where you bought it from and the conditions of where you have transplanted it. the more info the better they can advise you.
