Greetings,

I have been offered a position at a private school in Mirdif. While Dubai itself seems amazing, I am having trouble finding anywhere on the internet about teaching in Mirdif. I would be living in either Shorooq or Ghoroob with other teachers nearby, and I know that the teachers at the school share taxis to work. However, I cant really picture what my life outside of school would be like seeing as I would be in Mirdif without a car. I don't mind taking taxis to go out and socialize, but I am wondering if the teachres are a tight knit community in Mirdif. Do they go out on the weekends together? I am a single 29 year old girl, and I like to socialize. Im wondering if working and living in Mirdif is suitable?

Any advice would be great!!! I need to either accept or reject my offer in the next couple days.

I would say that you would be fine living in Sharooq or Gharooq - I know that another school in Mirdif (british curriculum) house their teachers there too, so there is the opportunity to meet other western dare I say, teachers.

We have our daughter there. She is really happy. It's a small school so it has a nice community feel. Everyone knows one another. The teachers seem to get along well and I see some of them car pooling to and from school. Or going out for quick lunch. The teachers we've had have all been really nice and easy going. Mirdif is a nice area to live in. It's more of a family environment. Not a party scene ;) Shrooq and ghuroob are the newest developments out there. And are super close to the school. The new mirdif city center is also close by and offers nice shopping. Anyway. I hope some of that was useful. Good luck with your decision. :) edited by Salmonerd on 20/07/2011

They are willing to negotiate around 500 more AED, which isnt tons, but at least its something. I am leaning towards taking the plunge!! Again, if there is anyone else with advice or opinions about living in Mirdif please advise. Thanks!

Generally speaking the teachers socialise together and have a good support network amongst each other. I have worked in a school and the new group of teachers that came each year all went out together, cooked dinners for each other and were really supportive. Which school is it, there are several in Mirdiff and where are you coming from? I don't know Sharooq, I think they are the apartments not far from Spinneys supermarket. You have Mirdiff City Centre mall very close by which is great, but most popular bars etc are Jumeirah way, 1/2hr or so, but if you are all going out you could share a taxi anyway.
