Horse Rider Insurance - Desperate

I got thrown off a horse a few months ago and had to see the doctor (bad neck and back etc etc)
Anyways - I found out my medical insurance does not cover horse riding. (Its green crescent and rubbish)
I have called Bupa and other insurers and i can only take out insurance for horse riding if i take out a complete medical insurance. Seems a bit ridiculous and expensive when i already have medical insurance for everything else.

In the UK it was so easy to get horse riding insurance with pet plan, equine insurance etc etc. Here it seems there is nothing available.

Do any of you ride and if so are you covered by insurance? Im desperate to get back on a horse, but hubby has banned me (What an oger) incase i fall off in the middle of the desert and have to be airlifted, etc etc. i get his point and Yes i know - completely exaggerating. The most annoying thing is - I havent fallen off since i was about 12, he he

Really hoping someone can tell me how to get insured so i can get back in the saddle!

Aston1 - you are correct some insurance policies like AXA and Bupa allow horse riding as long as your not competing professionally. Unfortunately my insurance (green crescent) doesnt allow horse riding what so ever. Chocs01 - Your right - I had to say i slipped out the bath. Thats fine for minor injuries..but something more serious happened - ...Im sure once they see me in sand and riding boots they will know i didnt just fall down some stairs. Id rather be covered properly. Thanks Jubes - let me know if you hear anything. I contacted Catherine De Buyl Insurance which is really for professionals - but she said they do offer Amateur insurance so will let you know the cost when i get some info back cheers girls

Hi I am a horse rider too, I have medical insurance and this was not a problem as I was told as long as you are not being paid to do this sport (in other words not a professional) then its fine. Let me know if you want to be put in touch with this person

Most insurance companies don't like covering 'extreme sports' that's why you have to get your doctor to simply write that you took a tumble on the stairs or something - learnt that very quickly through wakeboarding injuries.

I really need to get this too! I've asked around before and have now forgotten the names but they were international insurance companies. I just emailed [url=http://www.horse-uae.com'>horse-uae.com[/url'> to see if they know of any places. edited by Jubes on 19/07/2011

Good spot Summerdream, maybe i am a child bride of 13, hehe Polly Dxb - thank you for looking. I tried that too and as the insurance is a company one - they wont let you add a premium. Ridiculous ay! Just wonder if everyone i used to ride with either hasnt thought about insurance or they have a good insurance that covers them. Anyway - if anyone comes up with a company / insurance idea - please give me a shout. I cant live here without ponies :(

Laura just nitpicking here - but are you sure the fall a few months ago hasn't caused memory issues? You said later in your post you didn't fall since the age of 12 ;) Unless insurance defines being thrown off and falling :-) I have so much work at work - I should just get off EW and stop bothering posters!! :-)

Laura - I have checked, I can't find a stand alone horse riding policy, but you should be able to add it a medical policy, as a special condition, I have been warned though that the premium will be high! Sorry not the news you want to hear, but at least you know there is an option.
