I have a neighbour's teenage DD coming to sit with my kids this evening but I have no idea how much to pay her.

Does anyone have any idea of an hourly rate please? She will not be working past 10.30pm and will not be expected to carry out any duties apart from supervising my kids.

my 16 year old sits for our friends and they pay him a total amount for the evening rather than an hourly rate...he's never asked, he just accepts whatever they give him lol

Hi - I am an 18-year-old British student and interested in babysitting to earn some extra money before I head off to University next year. I am reliable and great with kids. I regularly babysit for family and friends so I am willing to provide references if necessary. I am available everyday after school and also at the weekends. If interested, please contact me on 055 7095 837. Thanks, Charlie.

Its not what the teenagers "charge" but what they are paid at the end of the night with all the ones I know (at least 4 different families).

Mine charges 25dhs an hour plus the taxi fare home, i am new at this and has only used her twice. I think next time i should also leave dinner as did not even occur to me I think paying close to 50dhs to a teenager is crazy when you can get some of the cleaners to baby sit for 30 and will do your ironing once the kids have gone to bed. See- here's what I don't understand- in this country it is practically impossible for a teen to get a part time job. Whether it be babysitting or anything else... How else do they learn good monetary responsibility unless we hire them? After all, nothing like a kick up the butt when it's your own money. And yet people are willing to hire uneducated maids to look after their kids, because they are cheaper than a teen and will do their ironing? Doesn't make sense in a country where ironing is as cheap as chips... at least not to me anyway. As I said I am new here and I did not get a cleaner, I do have a teenage girl too, she is 17. What I do think it is excessive is to pay 50dhs to some times even 13 yrs olds! I do not think a 13-17yrs old is any more educated than some maids who used to be nurses or even school teachers and are mothers of their own. The language, yes, you do have a point. I just do not get how can they charge so much? I did not even earn that much in my first job out from uni. Anyways those are the rates that either one would charge so each to their own :) I do also round it up to pay whole hrs. I think 30dhs is fair

I was thinking 30. No taxi required as she lives directly behind me :) I normally top it up a bit - ie. if it was 4 1/4 hours, then I would pay her 5 so probably 30dhms per hour sounds about right.

I have paid 25dhms an hour for a teenage babysitter. Plus we either drop them home or pay for a taxi. edited by Kakariki on 09/01/2012

Thanks. There won't be much in the way of amusement but she will need to supervise 7yo getting to bed (he knows the drill) and making sure 12yo DD doesn't get up to mischief... DD was not impressed at the thought of being looked after by a friend's older sister and not a maid until she met her and seems to be completely awestruck by her :)

My teenagers and their friends get anywhere between 30 and 50 dhs an hour depending on how many kids, time of day etc. If they are just looking after sleeping children its not as much as amusing them on a friday afternoon for example. HTH
