So after much debate we decided not to go ahead with hiring an Indoensian maid - too much hassle for me hiring directly from Indonesia and I am not willing to pay Dhs 7500 - 9000 agency fee with no guarantee that they will not be running away and no replacement from the agent, incase she decides to steal and wear my private clothes again :)

So, we went down the road of Howdra full time maid from Philipines - touc wood, last 3 days has been great. House is sparkling clean, she can cook and DS seems to like her too ... and dog is happy to have some extra attention during the day too.

Howdra and Explorer belong to the same mother company, so I was told that they are 'sister companies'.

My only 'concern' in hiring a howdra maid is .... we pay Howdra 2500 and the maids only get 750 - 1000/month. True that the visa, flights and holidays are being paid by the company .... but still ... that's little amount that goes back to the maid, no?!
They are under company sponsorship so their visa is for 2 years ...
how is it that as individuals we are subjected to pay a minium of 1500 for full time Filipina maid but companies can pay less, and yet do the same job??

just a question I asked myself ............

Anyway, for anyone out there looking for hassle free maids - go for Howdra or Explorer ....

IAMVP Not true. My dh works for the AD Gov. It is perfectly legal to have a live in maid on a AD visa and live in Dubai. Next thing you LL tell me my dh can't live in Dubai as we have AD visas. It's not a complicated situation what so ever where did u get this false info from? so do you think these 'maids' are on maids visas? NO. they are on cleaner visas. You are wrong, I don't think the Abu dhabi government would get something wrong lol

You are welcome Tru Blu - i was told that the new maids are coming in mid October - so if you contact them now, you'll have a higher chance for having 'options' and able to interview a number of the maids according to your criteria. Good luck!

Thanks for posting flower girl. I was trying to avoid going down this route but I think I may have to. I can see that there are definite advantages to it.

In answer to you IAMVP I have a maid from Howdra and the service is great, regarding your comments about Abu Dhabi visa's I think you need to get your facts right it is United Arab Emirates which allows us expats to work in any of the emirates.

Their maids are on Abu Dhabi visas and so it is illegal for the company in Dubai to send them out as live in maids. All a complicated situation, but as I know, it will all come crashing down very soon indeed, and you may find yourself maidless in Dubai.
