Unfortunately, there are many people who will not respond to any school staff unless there are real consequences.
This is not a Regent school issue, this is the age old inconsiderate and selfish issue. It happens everywhere. Some people are not concerned what they risk, who they endanger or what inconveniences they may cause because they are only concerned about themselves. As for Regent, there is ample parking around the area. However, it requires a bit of a foot haul. Obviously, walking is not their option. Some would rather cause great danger and inconvenience.
I think the police ticketing the illegal parking would be a great start.
One more place!! every morning when you drive from Greens to SZR, the exit you take next to DIB... I am sure there's gonna be a bad one there too.. People park the cars right on the main rd..
Not only is the illegal parking dangerous, the temerment of some of the drivers is also illegal.
Last Thursday on my way home from work, I was cut up, shouted at, and swore at by a lady in a silver Pejero she had at least two young children in her car witnessing the rant.
What caused it, is that she was forced to wait a whole 20 seconds before being able to change lanes and do a U-turn. There was no reason at all for her appalling behaviour, language or handsignals. I might add, as far as the Highway code goes I was completely in the right, and it was her that was trying to complete an illegal manevour.
The school may say they are 'trying' however, it does effect badly on their brand and reputation.
I'm with you on this one - my heart sinks everytime my friend asks me to pick up her child from Regent School. I prefer drving down SZR in the rush hour to facing the school run.
I can understand that every parent wants to get in and out quickly, but if they value their children that much is it not safer to park safely in designated areas even if you have to walk a little distance to do so?
I am a very concerned resident of The Lakes. I drive by RIS every morning and my stomach knots at the dangerous double and triple parking on the 3 lane road outside the school. There will be an accident one day. These parents are putting their kids into such a dangerous situation. Yesterday I counted 20 cars double parked next to the big "No Parking" signs. And yet, there were 30 empty car parks in the safe school parking area. I really cannot understand why parents would willingly put their childrens lives at risk.
I called the school this morning and they said they have done everything to stop the parents - notes home, teachers standing outside the school, guards outside the school, calling the police etc. They suggested that I call the police as they feel that only when there are enough complaints will the police actually come down to the school and start booking parents. So if there is anybody else out there that has seen this and is worried, please join me in calling the police and asking them to action this very dangerous situation.
