Is there anything that I can give my LO to help with the runs?? He's 13 months old and has that stomach bug that's going around. Also is there things like pedialyte here?

ah thanks Squeeks. I won't stone you. I remember my mom always pouring coke between two cups to make it flat for us to drink. I have ginger ale at home so I may give him a little as I drink some for my stomach

srdoucet - sorry, coriander much better for the runs than cumin. As far as drinking - will probably be stoned for saying this - but have always found that flat coke, with a little salt and watered down (to help the conscience!) is always happily accepted by the kids!

Lots of infants refuse to drink pedialyte. You can give white grape juice. It also contains electrolytes to help prevent rehydration and sure tastes a lot better! ;)

wow squeeks I never heard of giving ground cumin before. You learn something new everyday. DubaiCat I'll let you know. I think you're just down the street anyways.

Cut out dairy and if he has formula, switch to a lactose free one until a couple of days after the bug has run it's course. Babies can become temporarily lactose intolerant when they have a tummy upset and this can make the diarrhea worse. Hope he is better soon.

the only problem with that is that he's refusing to eat a lot so I can't even get any solids into him. I hope that none of you get this d a r n stomach bug.

Hi Sorry to hear this. My little one had it recently and it seems to be a long-lasting variety, so make sure to keep your son's fluids up. I found rice pudding with a little cinnamon (helps tummy cramps) and ground cumin (helps stop the runs) really helped. If you can get him to drink potatoe water (water that you have boiled peeled potatoes in), plain rice, mashed potatoe they really help too. Shame - hope he is better soon.

Give him bananas. They help stop you back up.

Thanks DC. I'm going to see if DH can find something at the pharmacy.

You can get Pedialyte at pharmacies but you can also give them adult Dioralyte if you don't have Pedialyte (according to our doctor). I have some blackcurrant Dioralyte powder here if you need.
