Inpatient procedure - specialist. Has anyone been admitted there personally and those with bad experiences was it the quality of the medical staff or the general basic feel of the hospital.

I've gone there for ENT, eye doctor as my insurance has a deal with them (NGI Healthnet) and it's conveniently located, most clinics have a first-come first-serve approach rather than fixed appts, and taken maid there for dental work. The meds are free, or very low cost. You'll certainly see a very different side to Dubai society.

Mmm! Doesnt fill me with confidence. Have a consultant from a regular 'expat' hospital who also consults there and tells me the equipment required for a procedure is available at IH not the one we see her at. I'm feeling uncomfortable with the prospect unless anyone can convince me otherwise?

well, I delivered both of my children there and now take kids to pediatrician for normal check ups and vaccinations :) I would say that it's not a 5* facility, but basic (close to government) environment. If you have a normal delivery, they discharge you after 24 hours. Most of the doctors are Iranians. Fees are low and you get more discount if you have health card with them. As in most government hospitals, you need to ask if you have any questions, rather than wait that they will explain you in greater details.
