HI. I JUST WANTED TO KNOW, ONCE YOU GET ONE CHILD INTO JESS, IS THERE SIBLING PRIORITY FOR THE OTHER CHILD?

Thanks I'll pass that on. Presumably they would have no firm idea how many JESS students (particularly JESS Jum.) will opt for secondary at AR or go with DC, EC, JC until just a few months before so hopefully more places will open up for you around Feb/March of 2013.

Hi Tuesday, Sibling priority is for Yr 7 also, but was told by the secondary Head that the first preference is to all the primary kids wanting to enter secondary from Jess Jumeira and Jess AR. Sibling priority comes in next and at the rate it has been going for the past two years, there is no chance for a sibling to come in. They only have 15 allocated spots for outside Jess students and already the waiting list is full for the year I am looking at, which is 2013!!! HTH

Is sibling priority for FS1 only or also year 7 ? If someone has a year 10 in the secondary and then applies for second child who is at a local primary-only school eg Safa or Kings for year 7 do they have any priority over others applying for secondary from outside who don't have an older sibling?

Sibling Priority??? Are you kidding me?? My girls are in Jess AR since the last 4 years and my son has been on their infamous waiting list since August 2006!!!! Up until last year, was told that he may have a chance for secondary but this year have been told that secondary may not be likey too. By the way he is in Yr 4 at the moment so was in yr 1 when we applied. We live in the Ranches, and find it extremely difficult to juggle different schools and different after school activities.

For me, the main reason for moving them is due to location. we live in the Ranches and it would be so much easier. at the moment we are at Dubai British School, which we are very happy with... i'm just wondering if it's worth taking them out of DBS and splitting them up in the hope that they'll both get into JESS at some stage. spoke to JESS amin this morning who reiterated that no sibling priority to children unless it's entering F1. so.. to keep them both together at DBS or split them up for God know's how long until the 2nd gets in!? !!!

we believe we also fell foul of a juggler before we even moved here (for youngest - JESS was straightforward all the way through)

All of the schools here juggle the lists. I am absolutely certain of this fact. I can show you the letter stating DD was 32nd on the list, and another letter of place offer 2 days later ...... we declined. it turned out the owner found out where DH worked and needed a favor....ha ha ha.....but we did not want their place, and chose to go to another juggler. edited by vero possumus on 05/04/2011

We registered DS as a baby (6months) at Kings Dubai, an he only made the assessment stage by the skin of his teeth. Actually, he didn't until we kicked up a stink. We ended up getting our deposit back as we suspected they were doing a little juggling as far as the waiting list goes. Not shaming the school at all, I'm just saying that it's probably best to register as early as possible at prefered schools, but also expect schools to have their own rules as far as waiting lists go.

we tried to get both ours in but having got our eldest in they told us no point leaving youngest on list - even with sibling priority a 6 year old has no chance !!! Of course we'd have preferred them to stay together but we really wanted our eldest to get into JESS. I know stories (may be "urban myths" though lol) of people registering babies on the waiting list and still not getting in when they reach school age...not urban myths.....but SUE62, you needed to call them weekly, only those who hound get in.

If you don't take the place offered now, you will never get a foot in the door. Take this place and then once she is in, hound them every week until they find a way to get your other one in... From some of the horror stories you read/hear about some schools in Dubai, I can honestly say if you cannot get into one of the top ones, then you may be sorely dissapointed. I know there are exceptions to this rule, but a friend of mine moved her kids out of DESS and has regretted it ever since, and their schooling has been damaged.

so if one is offered a place in Sep for Yr 3, and my other daughter is going into Yr1 in sep but doesn't have a place.. do you think it's worth splitting them up? in the hope that my younger daughter will get a place in the next year or so? not sure if its worth splitting them up or not?! It is worth it in the short-term (i.e. one year) but not if she doesn't get a place for years and years.

At JESS for FS1 it is sibling priority first followed by non sibling debenture holders. Hope this helps.

NO. there is some kind of priority if the child is younger....but don't forget the debenture holders first. Besides all that, did it never occur to you that some jump the school lists anyway.....

Only in respect of Foundation 1 - don't think it applies for the other years.
