some really great info here about homeschooling - i know there are a few people on here that are k12 homeschool families - but doing the program from home. Are there any families here or people with kids currently enrolled at k12 academy full-time on site at their center in knowledge village? or anyone that can give insights about such a setup?

i spoke to the k12 people, and truth be told, they were quite wonderful. helpful, supportive, not pushy, and not snobby. all pluses. negatives: k12 from home costs about 18K - on site, full time, it costs 55k!! holy smokes that is quite a difference.

i'm more interested in the k12 program because it allows students to move at their own pace - and gives individualized attention/tailored programs and pacing as per the child's strengths and weaknesses. not something you'd get in a traditional school. i understand that full time students can also participate in center activities. homeschooling from home is not a possibility for me, so this seemed like a good balance.

anyone with experience sending their kids full time/or even part-time to the center? what is it like? how many kids are there? what are the activities available at the center?

thanks all x

First of all, I need to mention that K12 brick and mortar school (so to speak) specialises in students with special needs, whether English is a second language for e.g. and not quite mastered to allow a student in a mainstream school or whether additional needs have been identified that mainstream schools in Dubai cannot help with. All the teachers are highly qualified with a special need focus or diploma (phd or masters you name it). Speak to them but to my knowledge students at K12 in Knowledge Village or K12 plus in Barsha have a minimum of grade 3-4. When my DS was at K12 last academic year, the youngest in his class was 10 years old. The curriculum is mix of computers and books and as you go through the years, there is more and more book studies.Give them a call again and find out about younger years. I highly recommend them. Thanks to K12 my son was able to integrate a fantastic small boys boarding school in the UK while here he was let down big time after he finished year 1 at a mainstream school in Dubai and no school would take him on because he was a special needs child.

My son joined the centre when it first started as a tutoring centre and saw it developing as a school. Let me know if you need more info. thanks for getting back to me - would love to speak to you about your experience there - mostly as full time students, what are the teachers like? and how engaged are the teachers with the kids? are they mostly just on the computer and get help when they need it? what about for the younger years, like KG?
