Hi ladies,

have you tried any of these brands? - or any other? which one would be the most natural to use? I have been to each store and also did a search on the brands on their website - they all claim they are natural, organic etc etc but the issue is that some would be more natural than the others and have less chemicals and hence better to use - your help would be really appreciated. I am actually looking for hair products - tried the regular salon brands such as kerastase etc but as I have a sensitive and tight scalp none of the salon brands help - scalp can also get itchy and flaky after washing - I dont want to try medicated shampoos as I believe they still contain high levels of chemicals as well as sodium laureth sulphate and parabens which apparently is not good for the hair.

I know the water here doesnt help so i use the mineral water as a last rinse and wash my hair with cool water and not hot..i dont have one of those telephone showers so cant get a compatible shower filter as i only have a shower head stuck to the wall and no wire exposed (guess the wire is behind the wall).

Therefore, I am trying to find hair products that are less harmful and contain less chemical - my hair is naturally dry and scalp is very very sensitive - and I dont colour my hair nor use hair dryers etc. I am looking for a shampoo, a separate conditioner, and also a leave in conditioner (or some form of serum or product that I can use as a styling product to help soften my hair and keep it from frizzing). Also as my hair looks dull and lacks lustre I need a shining spray - all these to be as natural as possible.

Please advise.

Thank you.

Me and my son have been using kiehls for about 7 years now ! I first started to use the products when my son was born after i recived a baby gift set. It contained a face wash, body wash and mouisturiser. My son still uses the face wash and the moisturiser 7 years on ! I use the Blue herbal Cleanser and also the cammomile one which has bits of the flower floating in the liquid. I use the Blue herbal Moisturiser as suffer from Oily Skin. My husband uses the Facial Fuel moisturiser. L'Occitaine I love the hand creams. I have one which comes in the silver tube and has the blue sticker ( cant remeber the name ) and its really rich and fantastic after swimming and the beach !

LUSH is fantastic. I am hooked on their products. I have used Lush shampoo bars for 2 years. They last a very long time and don't dump a lot of chemicals in your hair weighing it down. Every time I try other products I come back to LUSH.

I haven't tried Kiehls - heard its good... but I have tried the rest. I would not consider L'occitane completely organic. I love their products..but organic? No! NYR are pretty organic. Their products are really good. They even mention the percentage of organic items in the product so that will give you a good idea about the ratio of preservatives. LUSH products are by far the most natural I have tried. They sell their products in solid state. This is done in order to reduce the amount of preservatives that would otherwise be needed (any thing that has water in it WILL get spoilt eventually). You should try their solid shampoo for itchy scalps : http://www.lushusa.com/shop/products/hair/solid-shampoos/soak-and-float

Hi Nadiya, There is a big Organic shop with a substantial cosmetics section in Dubai Mall, ground floor, can't remember which shops are nearby as I don't venture that way often, but if you go to Dubai Mall and check a map you will find it easily. There's another one in the Emaar Business park in the Greens (near Dubai Marina and Tecom) but I've never been so I don't know if they carry cosmetics. There is a small shop in Dubai Marina mall, Promenade level, next to Borders that sells organic shampoos, conditioners, etc. I actually tried some Aubrey products from there and they were quite good-they also give you samples of other type of shampoo etc to try so you can see what works best for you. Finally, I also found a paraben/sulfate/etc free range at the Body Shop the other day. The shower gel is quite nice, I also bought a shampoo that was ok but in any case, they have travel sizes so you can just get a couple of those and see if it works for you. good luck! Thanks - i see alot of the aubrey stuff appearing on the expat woman - worth checking out so i guess I will make my way down to the shops and see. Thank you so much

Hi Nadiya, The words 'natural' mean nothing, if you're looking for organic, look out for an organic certification (USDA or EcoCert are very stringent). You can also going onto the skindeep website which gives a safety rating for products based on their ingredients, try avoiding anything above level 3 (but read through the ingredients list first). NYR are pretty good with their ingredients, they don't seem to be certified organic but at least there are no parabens which should be avoided at all costs anyway. Burts Bees is also a good bet, again not certified organic but much less harmful. I personally use Aubrey Organics, not all their products are USDA certified but the shampoo I use is vegan, cruelty free and uses safe ingredients. HTH Hello SeaofLove - thanks for the details. I have been to that site which you have mentioned - unfortunately a lot of products for these brands are considered around 4 and above. Its really confusing! so I assume that NYR from my list of brands is probably the more organic and lower in chemicals than the rest? or i guess organic means natural but not less chemicals? I just went to the website and typed in NYR's Invigorating Seaweed Shampoo (just as an example, i haven't tried it). Its got a rating of 1 which is excellent, if you scroll down to the page you see that the most dangerous chemical in that product is Potassium Sorbate. Given that it was the last on the actual ingredients list, I assume that it is a very low percentage. The concern listed include allegies and to be honest that does not bother me too much as you can't avoid every allergent on the planet. Overall, the product seems to be quite safe to use. You just have to go through every product and its ingredients and make an informed choice. I would say that in comparison to Kiehls and Lush its probably the better choice (just my personal opinion) as most of the ingredients are organic. Thanks Seaoflove...this is of great help. I shall check the ingredients on the site..really graeful for your advise

I think when it comes to hair products I would go for Kiehls. I use their shampoo and conditioner and love it. If you want more natural products I would suggest going to the Organic shop, they have lots of different brands and I'm sure there will be something there for you. Hth. Thanks muurtje - where would the organic shop be?
