Can anyone please help me before I go mad! Has anyone stayed in Koh Samui on the beach where it doesn't cost a fortune! We are wanting a room/bungalow/beach hut for a family of 4 at a reasonable cost and not wanting a 5 star hotel! Any recommendations would be most greatful before I go mad!! Thanks :-)

We went to Koh Samui a couple of years ago with 2 teenagers and stayed at a lovely hotel called Buri Rasa. Very central, private beach, nice pool. Really recommend it. I stayed at Buri rasa too, for my honeymoon... absolutely loved the resort. I highly recommend it too..

We've been staying for the last 11 years (eek!) at a family run garden place. Right on the beach, quiet and so so beautiful. The garden is lovely and over all that time they've grown but without losing what makes them so special. They have an open air resturant and there are plenty of facilities and other resturants etc to chose from within walking distance. The jitneys go from the road at the end of their driveway to take you en mass around the island, and they will hire you scooters to get around that way. Back in the day, they were huts, and some of the origonal tile huts on stilts are still there, but now they all have a/c etc and theres family ones with lounge, basic kitchens, TVs!!! seperate bedrooms etc. It's run by the family, so service won't be prompt, is fairly eclectic and they're the nicest people. For me, it's the best beach...I don't really like chaweng, so staying at Maenam is perfect, and quiet. We've never booked, so not sure if thats an option but as they have proper villas on another beach down the road, I would say its possible. I'm blethering on here as I am so reluctant to post publicly the name of this place, i would hate to see it ruined by an influx! If this is the type of thing that interests you or sounds like what your interested in, let me know and I'll give you the name :)

Have a look at Zazen, the most gorgeous restaurant in the whole of Koh Samui, we have been there many times for dinner and have seen the chalets and they look lovely. Never stayed as we normally rent a villa next door from www.samuivillasandhomes.com

A few years ago we stayed at Holiday Villa. The location is really good. There is also a shop opposite the resort that rents out scooters and cars for cheap. The reggae bar opposite the resort does fab breakfast too. The rooms have everything you need and are spacious. They are not fancy but you wont be spending much time in them anyways. Staff super friendly and the spa is really nice too. The spa is 5star and prices are higher but we just went down the road to a massage centre and paid very little for massages and body treatments. The restaurant called Sunday just down the street has really good food and great for dinners. The resort has live entertainment in their restaurant too which is quite enjoyable.

Hi KIwisavvy, I posted this on a thread a while back but it really was SUCH a good holiday I wanted to recommend it again to you (but was feeling too lazy to type it all out again!) They have a nice website so you can have a look and see if it might be something that suits you.... xxx We had our favourite holiday to date in Koh Samui about 6/7 years ago. I can whole heartedly recommend the Pavillion Boutique resort (www.pavillionsamui.com) - lovely rooms (plenty of pool rooms/villas available and plenty of special offers too), fab friendly staff, amazing breakfasts, beautiful beach and pool and a very personal feel not a huge resort style place. We went down to one of the fancy hotels (can't remember which now, sorry) for a Royal Thai meal one evening which was an amazing experience for any foodie. We visited the big buddha temple and took a Thai cooking course. A couple of evenings we took a cab up to Lamai beach and had some very casual dinners and walked around the shops and market but mostly we just lazed about and had a great time! I couldn't recommend the place more highly but wherever you go I'm sure you'll love it, Thailand is a fantastic place full of lovely people and amazing sights and tastes. Enjoy! X
