@busybee2 and @Tattie Bogle, I am very thankful you have both taken the time to write about your experiences; It's interesting and educational for me to see all points of view.

no the recovery is not really the same as a csection as you only have a few little cuts, nothing the same as csection, i have both. . Busybee the OP asked about both laparoscopic myomectomy which I think you are referring to above, and also if she has an abdominal myomectomy which is pretty much the same op as a CSection. And yes you do have a full scar, mine is 4 inches, and you are instructed not to drive etc. The op is the same only a growth is removed rather than a bambino ;) edited by Tattie Bogle on 29/08/2013 yes i have had both so can compare. if you have a csection type cut then of course its like 6 weeks of no driving etc, but obviously it all depends, i could have driven after having my csection pretty sharpish if i had needed to, i didnt even have any pain relief afterwards which i know is not really normal, but my brain was worrying about other things then..... now with the laparoscopic surgergy there are just a few cuts and its no way the same recovery as a csection. i have the csection scar from long time ago and the recent one done laparoscopically i thought it would be alot higher but its actually lower than my csection one. once they have healed you wont see them anyways. to me you have to be happy with the doctor doing, but i can recommend dr christain he was brilliant, all you can do is go and see each doctor to see who is the best fit for you.

@the Dangerous Blonde, I really liked Dr. Awad Rihab, great bedside manners. she operates with Dr. Ibrahim Mohamed for Laparoscopic surgery. Because of my specific case, If I do surgery with them, I would need to sign for both laparoscopic myomectomy and open myomectomy. They told me I have a 60 to 40 even a 70 to 30 percent chance of being able to do it completely laparoscopically. Although these are good numbers and I know there is always that chance, I have seen other doctors that say they can do it completely laparoscopically. I really don't want to get an open myomectomy since it seems my scar would be a lot wider/higher than a normal c-section and the recovery time is way longer. I am also an extreme sports junkie and wear bikinis a lot. I know I should be more concerned about my uterus than my scars but I am the one that´s going to have to live with them plus I wear bikinis a lot. Your surgery does sound like it was a tricky one. edited by sunset1 on 29/08/2013

@busybee2, Thank you so much for your advice. @susa, was your case similar to mine? did you get laparoscopic surgery? my fibroid is 8-9 cm and it seems I have two little ones as well. How long did it take you to fully recover? @Tattie Bogle, that is tiny! just like my friends back at home, I could totally live with that. Here they talked about a 6-7 inch wide and not on my bikini line. I hope to get Laparoscopy and be back to doing sports after a month but that might be pushing it. edited by sunset1 on 29/08/2013

@Tattie Bogle, Thank You! I might still need to get a C-section. I´ve seen some C-section scars from my friends back at home and they were tiny and very low. Doctors I saw here talked about a bigger and much higher scar, hopefully I won't need one in the end. Mine's about 4 inches wide - not sure if that helps or not. You'll be fine, don't worry. Recovery from this type of op is same as C Section i.e. no driving for a while, no lifting heavy objects etc. About 2 months in total but I was back at work after a week. HTH. no the recovery is not really the same as a csection as you only have a few little cuts, nothing the same as csection, i have both. i was able to drive straightaway the doc said it was fine, just no heavy lifting. i got a taxi from auh to dxb but i was driving the next day absolutely no issues at all. i dont work but i could have gone back to work straight away if i had to.

he is quite cheap for a doc apt compared to mine in auh, he charges 400dhs consultation and i always have to pay like 1400 for mine in auh. so no harm in talking to him.

@busybee2, I am lucky I haven't suffered at all but this is also why I didn´t know I had something growing in there. I think it is now harder for a surgeon to remove it. City Hospital looked like a really nice place but now I have to worry about money too. It seems like my insurance will not be covering this op because it's "pre-existing". The quote I got at City Hospital is in the 50,000 dirham range and this is without any complications. If I can get this done with a good doctor at a lower price, I will probably choose that. Do you remember how long it took you to recover? I am so stressed out. edited by sunset1 on 28/08/2013 edited by sunset1 on 28/08/2013 yes i think that it was just around the 50k mark. i heard them discussing about whether it was just a fibroid or hysterctomy and they were saying it costs the same. i had it done 14th august and i could have got up and gone home straight away, but they wanted to keep me in, they did say it would be an overnight. to be honest i would always go with the good doctor over the money, being surgery you have to be happy in their hands etc. city hospital was really nice, the only other hospitals i have been in all my 16 years in auh is corniche hospital and al noor hospital and city is like a hotel compared to them. i have had this fibroid for like 2 years so would you say its pre-existing..! maybe its how the doctor gets the approval, i would certainly go and see dr christain he has done many of these procedures and alot at city.

Thank you all so much for sharing this helpful information with me. I am very relieved to read about so many good outcomes from surgeries similar to mine. I'm still a little scared since it will be my first time under the knife and dreading the recovery time/scars, hopefully I can get back to doing sports a couple of weeks after? @busybee2, I would have done the same in your situation. I am still in my early thirties, no kids. I will try to see your doctor soon. I have no symptoms but it keeps growing so I need to get this done ASAP. @nickym1d, thanks for your feedback, I have an appointment with Doctor Hafeez next week. @madamerose,, thank you for the advice, I will look into it :-) @Apricot, thank you. @Tattie Bogle, Thank You! Doctors I saw here talked about a bigger and much higher scar, hopefully I won't need one in the end. @Scribs, Thank you! I really liked Dr. Rajesh. He talked about doing my surgery at the Dubai London Hospital in Umm Suqeim 2. I love hearing about how good your surgery went and that it was something as complex as mine. I think I will need an extra scar on top of my bikini line to have the fibroid taken out. It is always hard to trust doctors (even if you like them) so this information is very helpful. edited by sunset1 on 28/08/2013 i have lived in auh for 16 years, my gyae there has been here 7 years, she used to do the surgeries in auh but not any more hence why she recommended me up to dxb, i always do my research and he was really good, i could have gone home straight afterwards i wasnt in any pain or anything, but of course the doc wouldnt let me they obviously like to observe... but have no issues with the surgery at all, very good at city hospital. i have had a csection before and so have been through surgery before, but the cuts were under my csection but tiny little cuts you wouldnt notice them. i would have thought that they would have been higher up but they arent you wont see them at all. he has a very nice bedside manner. having a fibroid or hysteromy is very similar op just takes a bit longer to do the hysterctomy etc. same costings for insurance apparently, and same recovery time. my fibroid i think was like 14 and where it was positioned gave me very heavy bleeding/flooding so thats why i had it done, obviously you may not have symptons now but they may well i have had this issue for over 2 years now and its not fun.

Sunset, mine was a large ovarian complex cyst app. 12-13cm diameter which needed removing urgenty due to my history of breast cancer and unknown factors ie how complex was it. Dr Rajesh operated on me at Saudi German and also operates at the Canadian Hospital. He reassured me from start to finish, he went through my tummy button where he put one internal stitch (Can't see anything there) and two small incisions either side of my pelvis for the cameras no stitxhes required and now I just have two 3mm lines there. He removed the cyst in tact without having to remove one or both ovaries which was perfect for me. Hope you get sorted soon x

just a little aside, I have a friend who had fibroids and changed to a vegetarian diet. Within 3 months, the fibroid had shrunk to nothing. I've heard this is quite common. Maybe something you might like to look into as well. Best of luck. I've been veg for 20 years and had a grapefruit sized one removed! ;) OP mine was done by the op like a Csection, though not in Dubai. You'll be fine, though allow yourself some recovery time. Hope it all goes well.

Thank you all for your kind advice, I really appreciate that. I will try to book appointments with the doctors you all recommend that I have not seen. I have a 13 week size uterus. I do not want to get an open myomectomy but since my fibroid is so large I need a very skilled laparoscopic surgeon. It seems I also have a couple of small fibroids :-( @Scribs, did you get your surgery done at the Dubai London Clinic? Was your case similar to mine? How long did it take you to recover and how big are the scars? @busybee2, if I may ask, Why did you have to get a partial hysterectomy? was your fibroid larger than mine? I have not had kids yet so I would like to keep that possibility open. @Littlefox, Do you know if your friends case was similar to mine? @Apricot, was your case similar to mine? my fibroid was very big and positioned quite close to i was bleeding all the time really heavy, because if am 45 and obviously at that age i have 2 kids dont want any more they decided thatthe best would be to get rid of completely, but they would have obviously just removed the fibroid and done a d&c in i wanted. he has done loads and loads of these procedures been in dxb i think for 10 years, he was referred by by doc in auh who has been here 7 years and he was really nice, nice guy easy to talk to, and knows his stuff.

Try Dr Hafeez Rahman at International Modern Hospital. He pretty much saved my friends life and he is literally one of the best surgeons in the world for this surgery. He has a HORRIBLE bedside manner though! Good luck

Good luck on your surgery. Personally I would go to Latifa Hospital for this surgery rather than a private hospital, only because the doctors perform these surgeries routinely and are accountable to Dubai Health Authority for their performance.(my best friend worked in Dubai govt hospitals.) I also recommend Dr Wael Summar, he performed same surgery on me a few years ago. Again good luck.

Hello I need some help choosing where to get my surgery done in Dubai (laparoscopy for a large uterine fibroid). Does anybody have any recommendations? I have already seen Dr Rajesh Devassy at London Clinic, Dr Ibrahim Elrahman at City Hospital, and Dr Rihab Awad / Ibrahim Mohamed at Mitera Clinic. I would really appreciate if somebody can share their experience with me. Thanks.
