We have exactly the same problem as rubberduck! I took a drive to the Dubai Garden Centre and chatted with one of the guys there - apparently its a fungus and he recommended two fungicides - Saprol or Baristin. Of course when I asked to buy some I was told they don't stock either, a bit pointless as a garden centre then. He did mention that we may be able to get it in Satwa but we don't know the area well so does anyone have any idea of places in Satwa where we could buy this - or anywhere else for that matter? B&Q is not an option as we won't be going to the UK until July next year. Also reluctant to get a gardener in as from reading other posts half of them don't seem to know what they are doing. Its so annoying as when we moved in the lawn was lovely.... Watering is twice a day, morning and evening 3 mins at a time (there is a watering system installed under the lawn) but previous to that when it was hot we had the system set to 3 times a day. Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks

I need a new gardner too :(( We have changed 3 of them since we moved in in march and each of them have either killed my lawn or put my bill up to 4 k by leaving the water on and going for a walk..I am so fed up, some days I feel like removing all the plants and grass and replace everything with tiles!!!! Does anyone know of a decent company that can take care proper care of a garden? I have tried calling Belhasa but they did not even bother to show up..Any suggestions?

I think we need a new gardener. They laid the lawn about a year ago I believe and have been responsible for it since then, but I'm not convinced they're much good. And it's just sand dumped on the grass, nothing else :(

To cure my blackened lawn the gardener has just poured 5 barrow loads of sand on top of it ....just in case there isn't enough underneath it I guess? Any know how that's going to help? just sand wudn't help... manure mixed with soil will help to rejuvenate the dead sand patch if it is that... most of the gardens out here need re-soiling as they loose fertility.

He doesn't hibernate as it stays too warm here, but he does have a huge burrow that he lives in! It disappears down into the sand for what seems like miles. Luckily she has a huge garden that can accomodate him, but I reckon she could use his burrow as a nuclear shelter!!

Crumbs where does he dig a hole to hibernate or doesn't he??!!

Please don't use SALUT if you have any pets as it will kill them! A friend of mine has a problem with grubs, and can read the arabic on Salut, so knows not to buy it. Apparently it also has a picture of cows and chickens on it with a big cross - just in case you don't read the instructions! Where did you buy PROVADO? Garden centre says it doesn't sell it:( when i use it i do it at night when my cats are inside, and likewise if you had rabbits etc. I think i bought the Provado in B & Q in uk

What type of lawn grub killer did you use? This problem has happened to a friend of mine recently... 1st time we bought a HEAVY duty chemical from Dubai Garden Centre called SALUT - you have to ask for it as they don't normally sell it! The 2nd time we bought Provado Lawn Grub Killer. We also use weed n feed from B & Q in UK just to keep it green and healthy. Oh how I miss B & Q!!!!!!

Hi there. We have just moved in to AR and the lawn that was lovely in May is now rapidly turning black, not brown, but black, with no grass at all in some areas. There is an irrigation system in place, which waters for about 2 minutes, 3 x daily. In addition the gardener is using the hose on every visit to drown the lawn for 10 or so minutes. He has twice given it "medicine" in the form of orangey small round pellets, which seem to sit on the grass. - any idea what they are? Should they be watered in and are they harmful to dogs? I have no idea if the lawn is rotting from over watering, or burning from the sun or maybe fertiliser? If you have a wonderful lawn at the moment, could you please share your lawncare tips, as I don't know whether the watering is too much, too little or just at the wrong time of day. Thanks 2 of our villas where we've lived, we were getting brown patches (even had one lawn returfed!) and found out it's a type of Bee (well it looks like a big BLACK bee) that lays its eggs in the grass and when you water, these big grubs come up to the surface and it was these critters making our grass brown! We ended up buying a type of lawn grub killer which you apply straight after you've watered as that is when they're at the surface and this kills them. Low and behold it almost looks like a bowling green, well nearly! We also put the sprinkler on am & pm for 30 mins each time!

That's what in thought. Am seriously considering getting rid of gardener and doing it myself as common sense doesn't seem to be an asset used much by the gardening company

Please please please put the fertiliser after sunset and water the lawn luxuriously till the pellets are dissolved over night or well in to the soil as sun over fertiliser can damage the lawn. over the fertiliser sprinkle organic manure....I water our lawn thrice a day in summers...at 5am, then at 11am and then at 6 pm. Keeping the lawn well hydrated.
