Just had a thought. Noodle house at the Madinat has an amazing chili tofu dish ( no egg etc in it), vegetable spring rolls, steamed rice etc. That is fine for vegans.

Second Magnolia restaurant, they will have vegan wines too. Also as advised, most Italian restaurants are really good at just making up vegan pasta dishes, and even a thin crust pizza with no cheese and just the veg topping is really tasty.

The only problem with Thai food is that they use fish sauce in many of their dishes. You need to ask a Thai chef or server for "mang sari wat" or "jae". That is vegan with no meat or fish products. I think that jae might include egg, so just ask to make sure.

Ok a dumb question but I am interested in your replies, eggs dont have eyes and the chooks dont get hurt when they lay their eggs (if they arent battery hens) wouldnt that be ok? It is not a dumb question. In my experience most vegans are so not just for dietary reasons but for ethical reasons including animal rights and enviromental concerns. Simply put vegans do not use or consume any material derived from animals, including but not limited to, meat, poultry, seafood, eggs, dairy products, honey, fur, leather, wool, silk. bone char, casein, beeswax, carmine, gelatin, isinglass, lanolin, lard, rennet, shellac, tallow or whey. :)

What about some of the Italian restaurants. Pasta with tomato sauce doesnt have eyes! Loads of options there. But doesn't most regular pasta contain eggs that a vegan would not eat? Vegan's dont eat eggs either? Sorry I had no idea. Magnolia, Dubai's 5 star vegetarian restaurant is licenced, vegan friendly and very accomodating. [i'>Al Qasr Hotel, Madinat Jumeirah Tel: 04 366 6730 [/i'> For a less expensive option many choices at Indian restaurants are vegan and most are willing to adjust items to suit if you are nice about it. *Although most would not be licensed* HTH :)

If you are going to one of the very high end restaurants like Verre or one of the Gary Rhodes restaurants, am pretty sure you could call and give them your dietary restrictions and ask that the chef make something special for you. I know a friend of mine who is a celiac (sp) has done that with the Gary Rhodes restaurant.

you could go for momotaro and get veggie(vegan) sushi... not so flash but wagamama has good vegan options.. Nandos (!) you can get roasted veg in pitta, just tell them to hold mayo and cheese... look online at menus if in doubt Ethiopian food is often vegan as they fast as vegan but the only restaurants I know are v basic and nr cournishe in Dubai and hard to find.... Good luck

Some friends visiting from San Francisco, one is vegan. I could use your suggestions for a nice dinner out on their last night in Dubai. They are going to India after Dubai so I don't want to select an Indian restaurant. My first thoughts were Thai, like Mango Tree in Souk al Bahar or Pai Thai at Madinat Jumeirah, that may have a number of vegan/vegetarian options on the menu. Additionally, both are licensed so the rest of the gang can have a glass of wine or three. Zuma would be great, but they have mostly fish, and she doesn't eat anything with eyes. Could you recommend any licensed restaurants that have a number of vegan/vegetarian options on the menu, or one where the chef can accomodate her requirements? Plus have the ambiance of a special night out? TIA ladies.
