Hi Ladies.

Trying to find flights at a reasonable price to UK in October. The cheapest I've found so far are with these 3 airlines. Does anyone have any experience with any or these? Wanting to know the good, bad and the ugly so I can decide which is best to consider!

TIA!

With Lufthansa it depends completely on the type aircraft if you do or don't have individual video system in your seat. (On domestic flights within Germany you don't have any video, but of course the flight are too short for that anyway.) With Air Berlin, make sure to check what the luggage allowance is. Went from Zurich to Hamburg once with them and could only take 15kg checked in luggage and 6kg carry-on. DH went with Turkish and said it was ok. Food wasn't great but other than that it was fine. Know nothing about Gulf Air. Out of the 3 I would chose Lufthansa.

Lol - a 5 metre long wedding dress! A passenger got on our flight with a giant remote controlled helicopter! Amusing to watch them try and find a space for that! The whole flight was a bit ''Carry-On'' but we laughed a lot! edited by chizz on 06/06/2011

Have only flown Lufty a couple times but it was only domestic, within Germany, not international. Found them very average and the food below average and no TV's on the seat back (for the flights we took), but they are a safe airline so that is a HUGE plus. Have flown Gulf Air so many times I've lost count. Whenever we flew Gulf Air between Bahrain and Dubai it was the older planes so I was a bit nervous, but we flew them to London and also Germany and they used the new planes and they were absolutely fine. Would definitely fly them to the UK again if I had to. Haven't ever flown Turkish. edited by shellly on 06/06/2011 edited by shellly on 06/06/2011

hello, i have similar experiences with Turkish Airlines (see Chizz). Long stopp over in Istanbul, ETA without choice, people with a lot of hand luggage, e.g. once the guy next to me brought over his daughter's 5 meter long wedding dress and wanted to carry this on his lap in a 5 hour flight :) Travelling to Germany often, Lufthansa is my choice 90% of the time. sometimes KLM as well. Check airlines websites for specials! cheers

Have flown with Lufthansa and Turkish airlines. Lufthansa is better I thought but they are both fine. Make sure you check the changeover time for Turkish airlines as some of the cheap flights only allow one hour (not enough) or a very lone time. Food, entertainment (individual tvs) on both airlines were fine. At the end of the day you'll get home safely and for far cheaper than other airlines so go for it! :)

Good to know that Turkish airlines could be an option. Air Berlin are coming out a little more expensive than the others mentioned (but still cheaper than EK and Etihad, of course!!) Has anyone flown with Air Berlin yet?

Turkish Airlines is not bad - flew with them in March to Madrid. The first sector flight to Istanbul was on the A321 as I remember, so not a lot of room and people were bringing far too much hand luggage on board, taking ages to sit down, etc - the crew were getting really peed off about it...flight not too long, so everything was ok. Next sector was on a bigger plane - food was ok, entertainment system was not great - nothing to rave about with Turkish Airlines...price was the best I could find on Expedia however, so we thought we'd try it! Would go with them again if they were the cheapest on offer.....Flew with Lufthansa last year or the year before and thought they were pretty good service-wise....entertainment system, not so good on the flights we took. Flew with Gulf Air years ago from UK to Kuwait and remember that it wasn't great, but may have gotten better since then. I would choose Lufthansa out of the three..... edited by chizz on 06/06/2011

Gulf Air didn't have the seat back entertainment system when we last used them to UK. But as WaxMuch suggested, best to check it on seat guru.

Hmmm....thats worth bearing in mind! Thanks Eva B. I recently went on a 4 hour flight with no seat back entertainment and thought it wouldn't bother me. but it drove me absolutely mad, so god knows what I'd be like for almost 8 hours!!!

The flight to Frankfurt don't have entertainment system. The flights to Munich do. ETA: Lufthansa I mean edited by Eva B. on 06/06/2011 Sorry. I didn't notice that there were no individual television screens. It could be because the Frankfurt flight was a night flight and I was sleeping?

Thanks Anon. Do Lufthansa have the seat back entertainment systems like on EK and Etihad? On the planes I have taken, they do.

I have flown with Lufthansa several times and I think it is a good airline. You can fly via Munich or Frankfurt. I have no experience with Gulf Air nor with Turkish Airlines.
