Moving out of the way for ambulances

A lot of people here seem to ignore ambulances when they are trying to get through traffic . I know that sometimes it is difficult to move, especially on the highway, but lots of times I have seen people in slow moving traffic make no attempt to move out of the way. The ambulance's speed in getting to the hospital may determine whether someone lives or dies. So please consider this the next time you see an ambulance trying to get through traffic.

I just been through this, and years ago I thought it might be because people didn't know whether to move left or right, different rules in different countries I'm not sure. But this, Too..... An ambulance made its way thru all the traffic but came to a dead stop and waited for the light, nobody on the other side of the light even paused briefly. It was a lot of time passed if I were in that ambulance!

That's true Oopsie. Where I'm from a police car, ambulance etc with flashing lights means "emergency, move". Here the lights don't seem to be used in the same way. Yes I've been wondering this too. Many times I see both ambulances and police cars, plodding along or sitting in a queue behind a red traffic light, with their lights on but no siren. What does this mean? Have they just forgotten to turn them off? They're clearly not on a job or rushing to get to an emergency, so why leave them on? Surely it teaches drivers not to pay the required attention when they see flashing lights.

It baffles me every time and I thank god I'm not in that ambulance. There are two reasons I believe causing this behaviour: the first obviously that drivers are not trained or educated to move. The second one is that quite often you see police cars with sirens or flashlight without any obvious reason, they carry their flashlight and are making no attempt to get through traffic. I think another reason is that drivers just do not respect the lives of others. We see this all the time when a pedestrian is (legally) crossing the street at a cross walk and a driver would rather speed up to pass them rather than give them the right away. Or the drivers cutting you off because you dared to stay at the speed limit.

I totally agree. Where I'm from, if you didn't get out of the way, you would get a fine. That aside, its the right thing to do, someone's life is potentially at jeopardy. It really irks me when I see this....
