Hi BFC

sorry its taken me a while to post, I just thought i would share my experience with you.

About 2 years ago we suspected my DS has autism, we went from pillar to post trying to find someone to assess him. We went to stepping stones, early intervention medical center, all of them. But for me I still was not comfortable. Out of all of them I would have to say stepping stones was the best.

Then I found out about this lady called Ruba, she is based at the dubai community health center. I met her a few time before she even saw my DS. She is an educational psychologist. She is lovely, explains every single thing so you are well informed. She observed DS at nursery twice, and home twice. She told me that he does have autistic tendencies and traits, but his symptoms are mild and he can live a normal life with help. She recommended speech, occupational and behavioral therapy for him. She was very open and honest with me and said she dies not want to label him. She has also assessed quiet a few kids at DS's nursery.

Honestly I felt like I was dealing with a human being with my sons interests at heart. I did not feel like she over recommended for the sake of it, nor did i feel like it was about money. She did ask us what sort of budget we had so she knew in which direction to point us to

Much to my joy, my boy no longer goes to therapy as he has been discharged, just in time for school! If you saw him now, you would never know at all the hassles we went through with him.

Ruba's number is:050 5514316

Good luck n let me know if you need more help

ETA sorry have been typing this with 1 hand as I am feeding DD! so if it does not make sense let me know

Hello Moonbean, I read your note which made me very optimistic and positive. It seems that your situation matches with ours. We have a child (4 years old now) who has recently been diagnosed with having mild autism. Although our child's symptoms are very mild (which is why we never understood it till a few months back), we too have been advised to arrange speech and occupational therapy for him. I would like to speak to you personally if that is fine with you. My email is [email protected]. If it is alright with you, please drop in a line stating your cell or landline number and a preferred calling time and self shall call you. Thanks again for posting your experience which really is like a bright ray of hope in the darkest time of our life. NC.
