50,000 units, once a week, 2 glasses of milk a day and 10 minutes direct sunlight on my arms and legs every day. Today was my 1st day to take 10,000 and I got this huge burst of energy, felt like I could run a marathon! Do you remember feeling like that when you 1st started taking it? edited by gusncoley on 06/03/2011 NO. The day after my med, I feel very calm but also drowsy.. Dr Basel said some other patients complain of this. SO I take it on Friday night...and have a lay in on Sat morning. No Bursts LOL LOL well I had a burst! SJ Aussie...I did have a baby 7 months ago and dr did say I was prone to osteo w/ my levels so low. My baby was born w/ 4 congenital heart defects also, and my US Dr thinks this could have played a part in that :( but We will never know for sure. I would definately recommend getting a bone density test then just to be on the safe side. Sorry to hear about your babies heart defects, I hope things work out ok. I would be surprised though if your D3 deficiency had anything to do with this as D3 is more related to mineralisation of bones and likely to affect growth, fontanelle closing etc. It normally only affects organs in extremely toxic levels - not the case here.

the article says dark-skinned people may need 20-30 times more sun exposure than a fair-skinned person... if that's the case, i'm definitely not getting enough sun, in fact i don't think it's even possible to.

Vitamin D absorption is most definately affected if you are wearing a hijab as there is less skin exposure but there are also other possible factors that can contribute to deficiency such as recent prolonged breast feeding, pregnancy etc. Not sure if any of this relevant or not? If your D3 level is low it is often recommended to have bone density tests done too as deficiency affects the amount of calcium in your bones (particularly as a female) and increases the risk of Osteoporosis.

It has been nearly a year since I started my treatment. I cannot remember ever in my life being as tired as I was before being diagnosed. By 7pm I was hanging on the bed desperate for sleep. Now I am back to my 5-6 hrs a night. Are you seeing the same doctor as SQ? Funny you should mention that. It seems I am. I have seen Dr Khan as well, just to make sure it was all correct, plus I have other issues and needed a female to have a 'proper' examination. How much d3 do you take per day?

I wear hijab and never get sunlight on my body. Dr said low vit d3 in this country is extremely high due to the fact most woman cover and do not expose their bodies to sun. I have been trying to think of a way I can lay in the sun w/out being seen LOL and most of the body needs exposing for about 20 minutes around noontime when sun is high to get full benefit. Certainly cant lay in my bday suit by our community pool hehe! My US dr told me (I just called her) 10,000 iu a day for about 3 to 4 months is what I should take since mine is so low then maintain about 2,000 per day after that. . She said the toxic risk only begins if it is above 10,000 per day. But I need a dr to prescribe it so insurance will cover it. I will call the dr I saw here again tomorrow and tell him what my US dr said and see if he will give a new prescription.

Try Dr Khan at American hosp, she will prescribe larger amounts. She is very good and seems to concur with Dr Basel Darwish.

Mine is really low too, 8. A number of my friends had their's done and they all had low d3 levels too. In fact, I don't know anyone who's had it tested it recently and got it normal. Was thinking there might be something wrong with the milk / dairy here? Does that make sense from a medical perspective? Why would so many people have low d3 otherwise? I do get quite a lot of sunshine. Anyway, plan on getting more sunshine and having it tested again, at a different lab. Have started the kids on the fish oil tablets as well. A friend of a friend did a whole doctorate on this actually, and had some interesting findings.... although I can't remember them, so will have to check again and can report back... was definitely to do with the sun, not the milk though!

I would be wary about taking high doses of Vit D as it can be quite toxic - you may be better just getting some sunshine on your body instead.

I had extensive bloodwork done last week because I always feel fatigued, and I ache, etc...... My bloodwork all came back great except for my vit d3 level. It was 9! Dr prescribed me 10,000 iu once weekly. But reading online says i should be taking 10,000 iu daily or more! Does anyone know what Dr I can see who will prescribe me 10,000 daily? I read on another thread that I think servants quarters was taking a large daily dose of d3, if I am right which dr did you go to to get this presc?? I took 10,000 iu today and it gave me this burst of energy I have not had in a looooong time! Thanks!
