Hi, I have done a bit of searching online about whether I can take a needlepoint kit onto a flight in hand luggage - including needle and scissors. According to the American Aviation site you can as long as the scissors are less than 4" blade and needles are OK - has anybody tries to take anything like this in hand luggage at Dubai Airport ?

Sewing needles are allowed in your hand luggage. Since I first posted I have now been to Florida and back with my sewing and had no problem at all :)

I bought it in the Wafi branch. They had the antique silver & gold ones when I bought a new one in April (lost the last one). Everyone my mum & I knew that does cross stitch got one for Christmas a few years ago. Thanks for that info. I searched around, asked in MCC but they said they did not have any, then went into DCC and they said they did not know what they were, but I searched their shelves and found it myself, the antique looking one. Next problem, what do I use for a needle on the aircraft?

Wow. MirdifIngrid, I am going off to get one for myself and my sister, best tip I have received on this board. Do you know which branch you bought it from? I have only been to the Wafi branch before.

Thanks MiridfIngrid - I am actually looking forward to my flight now ! Will see if I can get a threadcutter but will be steering well away from Sewandso or I'll end up buying far more than a cutter :) I must have about 3 projects on the go already at the moment !

My Mum & I always travel with our cross stich. We have never had a problem with the needles but we both have one of these thread cutter pendants (http://sewandso.co.uk/ran1063-0.html) which cuts the thread so no need for a pair of scissers. We bought ours at the Al Washia Trading shop, it was about AED 45. They have other branches but not all sell sewing stuff.
