Sebamed makes a decent baby bath soap and Pigeon makes a decent all-in-one shampoo and body wash. Mustela has always been problematic for my kids' skin. For nappy rash, I used Mebo ointment (made from sesame oil and available from pharmacies), Bepanthene ointment, a knock-off Sudocrem found in Carrefour called Bell's Zinc Oxide Cream (pink and white plastic tub) and Desitin zinc oxide cream (original formula). I've seen Desitin at Hyper Panda.

The best prevention and cure of mild nappy rash is nappy free time in indirect sunlight (make sure the sun is not on their face or head and the a/c is not blowing on their naked bits). No artificial chemicals needed and they get a dose of vitamin D at the same time. However, i agree that all babies (and their bums) are different, and i've used sudacream for prevention and bepanthen for cure of more severe cases e.g. when teething.

It would be great if you use all the organic and natural products that the ladies suggested below. I'm a mother of three and I swear by extra virgin olive oil and Vaseline! However I still use the products in supermarket! I would say it varies from child to another. What would work with one baby at one time may not work with other or at different time. Why not to buy small bottle from one brand and try it when baby is there and then decide? The best product is the one which is always available and budget friendly. This could be your start point!

At the JESS AR fair just before Christmas there were two ladies selling handmade organic bum cream, cradle cap oil, bath pillows, massage oils and room spray. Bought some as gifts for friends and they loved it. It was called Hushhh. They did say they will be at ARTE this year as they were new. Will see if I can find their contact details. Also, I never use baby wipes. Damp cotton pad, squirt of coconut oil and you have a perfect clean soft baby bum. Much less chance of nappy rash too. I keep glass push top dispensers of coconut oil in our bathrooms and a small squirty bottle of it in the nappy bag.

I've never understood why people load up their baby's delicate skin with products. They really don't need them. I only ever use water to wash, no soaps, foam or creams. For cleaning the nappy area, cradle cap and any newborn dryness I use virgin coconut oil from Organic Foods and Cafe. The Change Initiative also often stocks.

I've also been using extra virgin organic coconut oil from the US for everything from diaper rash to cradle cap to dry skin. Works really well for preventive measures, too...anyone know where to find it here in Dubai?

you can use virgin coconut oil in place of moisturizers. it does not smell like normal oil and is very good for skin. I still use it only for my son who is 22 months old now and he has excessive dry skin.

Why not try organic products for your new born instead of exposing her/him to all the carcinogenic and hormone mimicking chemicals in those commercial brands. You can find them at most of the organic stores. For a natural nappy cream use raw organic shea butter also avail at the organic shops, not only avoids exposure to toxic chemicals on the baby's most permeable skin area but works brilliantly as a protective and fast healing cream for nappy/diaper rash.
