what do in other countries when they find the mother who dumped her baby in the bin or left it on the street?
they prosecute them unless they are left at police or hosp........
I don't think you can be as categorical as all that. It depends on the circumstances. Actually, in England, I'm not sure they do prosecute, I think they try to help, first and foremost. The mother can be a victim as much as the baby.
not really sure i agree with your statement about the mother being a victim as much as the baby..... am sure abandoning a defenceless child, that is unable to do anything for itself, in a situation that unless they are found within hours will die - makes anyone a victim but actually a perpetrator.... yes they may be in a bad place mentally but doesn't really put them in the same situation as what they are doing to the child......

Articles like this sicken me about this place - sad, sad stories like the baby ( or foetus? ) found in the airport in AD - all they are interested in is tracking down and punishing.
But Spongie, what else are they (I assume you mean government/police) supposed to do? It is illegal to a) have premarital *** here and b) having a baby out of wedlock. On top of that...what justice does the abandoned baby have? How about the babies that end up living, but start off life without the care of a mother/father and end up in foster care for the rest of its life. Is it fair to them?
She committed a crime here. And one that not only affects her, but another life. Isn't that egregious enough to warrant being tracked down and punished? We aren't talking about running out on a 25 AED lunch or some other stupid teenage thing.
It is because of the harsh laws and strict punishments that we can enjoy a relatively crime-free life here. Though we may feel that the laws here are strict and harsh (in some cases they are, and I do see some as unfair), we benefit more from it than not.
So sad and shocking ! I would be devasted if I didn't have a close relationship to my daughter and she felt the need to hide something like that from me.. If only that poor girl could have shared her problem with her parents, they could have sent her back to the uk to deal with it without having to have gone through this awful ordeal !

just read the article (ok, should have done that before) and er... it's basically saying that she gave birth all on her own and not in a hospital. Bless her.
Still, my previous comment stands. It comes to something when a daughter is in that much danger and can't talk to her own mum about it... and it's not illegal in British society.
it is possible that this young woman was able to hide her pregnancy. She could be overweight and the baby small and she might have also not put on much weight. It is not all that hard to do, especially with some of the cloths that the kids wear now. So, the parents might not have been aware and put it up to weight gain. It does happen.
oh dear is right. Knowing the consequences of babies out of wedlock, unlawful relations with a man here must have a significant role to play in unbalancing the child enough to lead her to this action.
Wonder where her folks are?
Sad but why oh why didn't the parents do something about it....... they must have known (am assuming she was with her parents as have to be 21 to work here)
