Does anyone know who regulates the trading of 'organic' products in the UAE? e.g. in Europe there are bodies who check and certify the products as organic once they meet the required criteria to be sold as such. Am saying this because I got some fruits & veggies at the Organic shop last week and only the apples had the stamp (from somewhere in Tirol); the rest was all from Africa, India etc

Thanks roseo284 - I was actually reading about RIPE this morning and planning a trip there on Sat :) Only thing is that we want the organic veggies & fruit mainly for our weaning DS so not sure the box will also have what we need for him - checked their website and they do seem to have boxes for kids coming up soon No harm in checking though :)

I don't know how you can check the veggies and fruit in the grocery stores, but every Saturday at the garden center there is the RIPE market. They have locally grown organic veg there (you can get a big or small box with a good mix of veg). Also, the staff is very informative so if you have any questions about how they are grown I'm sure they could answer. They also have organic eggs, bread, and cheese!

Thanks Nostal. The products that come from Africa, India etc do not have a stamp or any information. As I am using some of these produce to feed DS now that we have started weaning, I would like to know what type of controls these fruits/vegs that come from developing countries have to go through before they are sold here as organic. Hoping someone here might know ...
