Just for those interested in this subject, which comes up often.

My sister (US passport) arrived here in Dubai on Dec. 18, 2011, and was given a 30-day on arrival visa. By today, Jan 19, she had overstayed by 2 days. She wanted to stay beyond the 10-day grace period, but did not want to do the visa run. So today, I went with her down to the DNRD office next to Bur Dubai Police Building, and she had her visa renewed for AED 720. She was given a piece of paper that says that she is allowed to stay until the 25th of Feb. So apprentely the renewal given was for 30 days plus the additional 10-day grace period. A total of 70 days from her arrival date.

Just thought to share that info with everyone.

Ruthie

The 10 day extension is only valid on the first initial visa. It is not offered for any additional 30 days visas. Any exta 30 days visa are only 30 days. Another helpful tip. There is a all day wonderful dhow cruise company that takes you to Musandam Oman. Picks you up at Mall of Emirates around 5:30am. Takes you to Oman and ncludes the cost of the Oman visa, lunch, transportation etc. brings you back at 6pm. Essentially a way to do the visa run for the same or lower cost of asking immigration for the stamp. If you leave and re-enter it is free for 30 days again. :) Hey...that sounds great. But to be good and ready for the cruise at MOE at[u'> 5:30 AM [/u'>'>is a real bummer!!! Too early for my blood!!!Ha..Ha...!!! Lazy Ruthie!!!

Its 30+10days=40days. We were doing it for almost a year and always left it almost exactly 40 days. You are only fined after 40days.

Thanks SlobberKnocker, No, there was no stamp or sticker on my sister's passport showing the extention. Only a computer-generated piece of paper, with a bar code showing the name and passport particulars, indicating that she is allowed to stay until 25 Nov. She is worried now!!! Should she go back to them?? Maybe you should call them and check. They should be able to tell you over the phone, to save you going back. It was 2010 when it happened to me, so its possible things have changed since then. I had the piece of paper only, which they did not accept at the airport. They couldnt ammend it there - so I missed the flight and had to go back to immigration in jafiliya to get a sticker in the passport. Thank you SK. We will do that tomorrow. Cheers!

Yes - all visit visas are valid for 30 days, but they have a further 10 day "grace period" before any penalty is incurred. So if you are doing visa runs, you need to only go every 40 days. If you are extending your visa - make sure they put the stamp/sticker in your passport as well as the piece of paper. In 2010 I missed my flight at the airport as they hadn't stamped my renewal properly and immigration tried to charge me for over a month of overstaying!

That's interesting. Does that imply that the 30 days stamp is actually valid for 40 days without incurring penalties?
