I am contingency planning and hoping for help. Having spoken to my preferred IB school (Greenfields) and reviewed the application requirements for it & a couple of others, I am realising it is going to be at least 2 or 3 weeks before I have the paperwork together required to present an application.

My kids don't even have passports yet! Then I have to budget time to actually get the packages to Dubai... I am worried that my boys are not going to get places for Sept '11 let alone the May '11 term (which apparently is at the mercy of the Dept of Blah Blah Blah).

Next step is to review some of the British Curriculum schools.

Which schools would you recommend with a British Curriculum? Ideally co-educational (as we are a family of men and I want my boys to be able to communicate respectfully with girls), but will look at either.

Thank you so much, you girls are awesome!

Thanks Claire, OK, that's what I'll do (otherwise I'll end up in foetal position on the floor!). You are right, I will at least feel that I'm moving forward. I am most interested in Greenfields. And they want transfer certificates from current school, passport and visa copies for the boys, DH [b'>and [/b'>I, birth certificates, immunisation history documents from Medicare, school reports for 3 previous years, medical records. DS1 is 8 turning 9 (March) and would enter G3 in your May term and G4 in Sept DS2 is 5 turning 6 (July) and would enter KG2 in May and G1 in Sept. Thank you, you've given me hope. This is the thing I am most worried about - giving them a seemless transition into a good school. This is normal for every school in Dubai and regulation. For a Transfer certificate just get Greenfields to send you a blank one for your school to fill in. Make sure it is filled in stating your children have completed the year prior to the new year of entry. If there are any discrepancies between year groups your children will be put into another year group. Dubai visa's can be handed to the school once you have got them in place, normally around a month after arriving.

When speaking to the registrars, clear with them what documents they NEED for the application and testing process. The bulk of them will only be required once you are accepted and have paid a deposit/registration fee. For my son's current school, we had to submit: - passport copies and photo - any school reports available - birth certificate I believe they needed these mostly to make sure that our son was testing into the right grade level. For other schools, he tested w/out these things. Just the application was needed. But the registrars can tell you for sure which ones that particular school requires.

BMAP, as Claire says get the applications in, what they are asking for in documentation is pretty standard, we are at a Brit Curr school so the domentation appears to be standard across the board, probably a KHDA requirement. Give the school copies of what you have and send a covering letter saying you are progressing the ones you don't have. I bet you won't be the first (or the last) who doesn't have all the documentation to hand. Good luck and don't panic!

Ideally co-educational (as we are a family of men and I want my boys to be able to communicate respectfully with girls), but will look at either. Thank you so much, you girls are awesome! Just complete the registrations as far as you can and submit them. Not sure what paperwork you need to submit but get your registration in without them. I think you will find that all the popular schools on here are all co-ed - I can only think of 1 girls school and don;t know anything about it. I didn't have to submit any paperwork when I sent in school applications. What age and year groups are you looking at? You might find you will be able to get them into great schools for your time frame as I know some people are leaving around now and will leave around Easter too so some schools are going to have places come up and you are not allowed to transfer from one school in Dubai to another after sometime in January so you might find it easier to be placed when you get here. My kids go to Repton and are doing very well. They are happy and love school. They are in yr 3 and yr 1 and I've been at the school with my little girl starting in Nursery - we are very happy with their progress and we have had super teachers.
