Just did the test at the clinic and I am pregnant! Now..I am a bit messed up in my head as it was so unexpected and just timing wise isn't great..I don't have insurance coverage for maternity....and financially everything is a bit tight....so i am not sure where do I go for antenatal and where do I deliver!!
I have heard people tell that Ajman GMC is cheaper, but any reviews?

I would suggest to avoid Dr. Sejal at Aster hospital, Bur Dubai. I had terrible time during my pregnancy. Recently, my friend too is going through a tough time with her. Can't divulge much here. Shall be happy to provide details on mail.

I would avoid Ajman GMC at all costs ! there reputation is very bad - Latifa hospitals and other government hospitals in Dubai are much better albeit a little more expensive. Hi Birchy, thanks for your feedback on GMC Ajman , but can you please explain where did you get or heard about their bad reputation. I am personally concidering it it for delivery , same as Immame, and heard just good reviews (not very many tho as hard to find people on forums who has experinced it) and prices are very acceptable , they have NICU and good care ... but I would like to hear why and where bad reputation is coming from as at the end of the day need to concider all but the best for the baby.thanks Birchy , looking fwd to your reply .... edited by Leodavid84 on 12/09/2013 Hi there so sorry have not logged in for a while and just saw this, I have had a personal bad experience with them as well as someone else that I know, the person who I will not name was due to deliver there and when complications showed they refused to admit her and we had to call all the hospitals in Dubai Sharjah and UAQ to help her. Also another factor is that there is major roadworks in place at the moment there and access is a nightmare. Am happy to discuss more but really dont want to put all the details on an open forum :) ETA : the hospital in UAQ is excellent and they have a SCBU - a little further but I would go there any day over GMC :) and I am speaking from first hand experience. edited by Birchy on 20/10/2013

Hey there, did not see your msg earlier on. my email is sweetkuxie at gmail dot com Hi Ladies Thank you for the replies :) I am now 12 weeks, I think I am still going for GMC Ajman. The costs and NICU costs just seem better there. My cousin who lives in RAK gave birth there last month and the baby was in NICU etc and the total cost was still under AED10K, and she said the nursing care and docs were excellent. She had a C-sec. She was given a date for C-sec however her labour pains started and she went there immediately. I am still seeing a private clinic doc, and thinking of going to the Ajman GMC from my 5th month, so then they have all my records etc there. I have PCOS and am taking the baby asprin and duphaston etc. So far its AJman GMC in my mind as I spoke to a coupel of people who went there and it looks positive so far. Thank you all Dear Imamme, what a coincidance .. I am PCOS as well , same meds as you are taking + Metformin as well...would like to discuss more about GMC Ajman with you ... talk soon ... Dear Immame , hope you and bump are doing great, didnt get a reply from you in sept in this post... as I didnt take a note when you send me your email address, would love to get in touch as I would like to go to GMC ajman as well , would like to talk about it with you and we have mutual subject PCOS .... hope to hear from you ...let me know if you read this message if you prefer I will send you my emaill address but just need to know you read it . great , thanks Immame .... will email you now ... Oh Leodavid84, Sorry I just saw your question! Aster hospital is a very good hospital but not luxurious at all. It has every necessary thing for you to deliver your baby safe and healthy. Yes Dr. Segal is the best there. Leodavid84 my advice to you is please visit the hospital once to have an idea. Then you can also ask to see the ward. I didn't like the staff much at my first visit to the hospital. But then realized they are really helpful though they don't have that "greeting smile" all the time. One day I went to Med care hospital and when their Gyne saw my cesarean scar(it was an emergency cesarean) she said it is really a nice cut, The doctor has done a great job! :) It was last March and now my baby boy is 18 months old. Take Care

My advice is to at least get an insurance to cover premature birth, NICU, complications, etc... My friend at least got those things covered when she was pregnant without insurance, and it was really worth it. The baby was born only a few weeks premature and only spent a few days in the incubator, but that alone cost nearly 15,000 AED extra on top of everything. I'd hate to think how much she'd have to pay if the baby needed more treatment or more days in the incubator. Laura do you know which company she got this insurance through? Im in the same situation and it would be a huge weight off my mind. Thanks ADNIC will do this. They will actually insure a woman who is already pregnant - it falls under their "pre-existing conditions" category! sorry to rain on your parade but this is not the case any more - i checked a month ago!

I have heard people tell that Ajman GMC is cheaper, but any reviews? Hi Imamme, hope you are still following your thread... well I have come accross to your tread as noticed you are exploring GMC Ajman hospital for delivery as prices are very important and this hospital is really far cheapest comparing to either government or private hospitals in Dubai. I am myself 14 weeks, high risk but no insurance so looking at the good quality hospital with good NICU but cheap as well . I have called the hospital and they were very kind explaining to me all , you can register with them earliest with 28 weeks . For me the only problem is distance as I live in Dubai (closer to exit for Abu Dhabi) so not sure how would that work if obviously with prenancy you never know when little one decides to come out and distance to hospital is crucial at that point. My obs/gyn that I have ante natal package with has said GMC is good hospital and also recommended Zulekha hospital in Dubai as good one as well. I read loads therads and lot of woman are recomending Latifa as the best specially if NICU needed. Maybe Latifa was the best and actually the only one with NICU best equpped but this days there are so many other hospitals equipped equally good and Latifa is quite expensive this days, no much difference then private hospitals. So I am actually conidering registring with couple of hospitals as they dont require antenetal package just purely registration and accepting antenetal test results from yur private dr you bring .so thinking of registring with GMS Ajman and Zulekha hospital as doeasnt cost anything. Let me know your thoughts and what have you decided on hospitals and we can chat privately if you like to exchange information that can help us both . all the best with your pregnancy.looking fwd to hear back from you edited by Leodavid84 on 11/09/2013

Hi Feebo, I recommended my friend to my broker. I am not sure exactly which plan she bought in the end, but you can speak to the broker we used. You can email her at Aurora at Pacificprime dot com She was really helpful and explained everything quite clearly. edited by Laura_C on 03/09/2013 edited by Laura_C on 03/09/2013

Just a question, is it possible to judge the smoothness or issues of a pregnancy by the 7th month? Absolutely not. I had low fluid and was nearly induced at 35 weeks for it which would have put my daughter in the NICU. And at 35 weeks when your body isn't ready to give birth, that greatly increases the chances the induction wouldn't work and I would have required a c-section. Have had friends develop per-eclampsia at 35+ weeks and need to be induced or have a c-section, as well.

Hi dear, Within all the hospitals in Dubai, the cheapest hospital is Aster hospital in Bur Dubai. I found this out after doing a massive research when I was pregnant as Dubai is not an easy country when it comes to the medical part!! You can see Dr. Segal there, she is the best!!! Aster hospital- 04-3988799 Good luck and TC Hi Dusha , - question for you, sorry Immame to interfear in your post , but my situation is similar, I am 12 weeks now, no insurance and looking for best , cheapest but also good quality hospital for delivery. I am in Dubai so exploring my options , but I am high risk. Dusha may I ask you what was your experince with Aster hospital, hygiene, do they have Nicu and can deal with high risk pregnancy or potential premature birth.so DR Sejal is the best one to look for ? how long since you delivered there ? any info is great help BTW , info on prices given before is not correct for latifa hospital, just calle the other day and natural birth is 7000 and c-sec is 10 000.Good luck Immame

Just a question, is it possible to judge the smoothness or issues of a pregnancy by the 7th month? Everything can change at any time. A completely smooth pregnancy can turn, in the middle of labour, into an emergency Caesarian with subsequent time required in NICU.

I was in your situation 8 years ago, and landed up at Al Wasl / Latifa Hospital. I was very happy with my experience of delivery etc there. I bought the "packages" - you had to have the ante natal care with them if you want to deliver there. I found that I didnt have to go to Latifa for every check up, only for my scan. The rest of the time I was able to use my local government clinic in Umm Sequiem, which was handy for me at the time. The only downside I found is that the doctors at the clinic could be quite brusque, and didn't volunteer much information. As it was my second (straightforward) pregnancy, I was OK with that as I am happy to ask questions, but I dont know if I would have enjoyed the experience too much if it was my first baby. Just a word of warning, if you are thinking of using somewhere else for your ante- natal and then switching to Latifa for the delivery, they never used to accept blood test results from anywhere else, and will make you pay for these again through them if you come to them late in your pregnancy. A friend of mine had a fairly high risk pregnancy, so her doctor wanted her to be able to deliver at Latifa, and this was her experience. They may have changed their policy on this by now, but just be careful. All the best!

Thank you ladies for the advice. Think i will go see a doc locally for the moment and hopefully think of what next. By the looks of it, it might be Ajman GMC...but like Anon mentioned I need to be ready incase anything goes wrong. Just a question, is it possible to judge the smoothness or issues of a pregnancy by the 7th month? No, anything can arise at any time and issues like gestational diabetes and preeclampsia are more likely to surface in the third trimester.

Please keep in mind that should anything go wrong, you will be left with huge hospital bills, even if it is a government hospital. That is why some people choose to go back to their home countries to deliver...

What about Albaraha hospital. It is government but followed ministry of health not Dubai health authority so the prices are cheaper. All the Antenatal follow up appointments are free and for normal delivery 5000 AED. It is not a luxury hospital but big and old with good experience. also the baby will be covered for the first month and in case of NICU. It is a good option for ladies with no insurance. You may need to contact them and ask about it since I don't have first hand experience with them.
