We will be relocating to Dubai from the UK in May.

What is your experience with redirecting mail? Is it worth bothering with?
I am thinking if I should have mail directed to family in Europe where the postal services might be somewhat more reliable.

Thanks
Karitta

We've renewed for the third time despite receiving a letter saying it would not be possible! I just called Royal Mail and the lady was quite happy to take my money. We have not had any problems that we are aware of. We have received one letter that should have been redirected to a neighbour in Switzerland so it is POSSIBLE that something of ours went astray!? I discovered that when I notified a c/card company of my change of address, I stopped receiving the points so I changed it back to my UK address and its OK now. Its worth paying your bills on direct debit as sometimes the system can be slow and I can be even slower collecting from our PO box. I would recommend redirection as even though I thought I had notified everyone of our change of address, I still receive post that has been directed and it would be a shame to miss out on long lost friends trying to get in touch.

we get the Royal Mail redirection to husband's work address - it's worked fine so far. They say you can only renew up to 2 years but i've been told more than once that after that you can make a fresh application, rather than a renewal.. Haven't done that yet ourselves though. We've had no mail delivered to the house by mistake.

We redirected to PO box in Dubai for 2 years as that is the longest that they allow. It sometimes worked but often went to the address anyway (a property we were renting out). I complained and got some free stamps! Its still didnt work very well. Anything important I changed my address with them to a family member eg UK Bank Account. Everything else I just left so I imagine our tenants now get mountains of unwanted mail!
