Can anyone recommend a learning specialist/counselor to work with a gifted child or schools that have programs for gifted kids? DS, age 6, is getting really bored in school, rushing through his work and then getting into trouble (talking, distracting others, acting out etc). The teacher is giving him harder and extra work, but he still doesn't stay satisfied. He loves learning and has a very curious mind. We want to try to prevent him developing a negative about school. TIA

Thanks for the responses. Tally-ho, does your DS act out in class when he's bored? The biggest challenge right now is keeping him from acting out in the classroom (which gets him called out by the teacher, which makes him unhappy, which makes him complain about school, etc). I have met with the teacher about it, and she's trying to keep him busy. I hope it is just a maturity issue and will improve through the year. Have any of you met with any educational specialists in Dubai who deal with gifted children? If so, can you please share the name/contact info? Thanks again.

I was told that you have to challenge them in other areas, for example learning an instrument especially the piano and learning another language. With gifted children it doesn’t matter how much work you give them as they seem to instantly know how to do it once you’ve told them once so it’s never really a challenge for them mentally. Buy him encyclopaedias, classic books such as Charles Dickens, engage him in science and encourage him to explore the world around hm. I recently brought my son an Atlas he has learnt all the capitals of almost every country, he’s now challenging himself to learn every flag for every country he’s only 8. You won’t need to do much with him just steer him in the right direction. HTH

I have a gifted 2 year old and spoke to some professionals about gifted children in the UAE. There aren't any programmes or courses to help parents. But one of them suggested that I try a google search for gifted children's resources in the USA or UK and ship the necessary items to Dubai to help. Haven't gotten around to it yet, but maybe you can find something useful online. How is it determined that a 2 year old is gifted?
