Salik - no refund when leaving the country?!

We have sold our car because we are leaving the country, and have a Salik credit. They say we cannot get a refund and cannot transfer it either. Sounds completely unfair, especially as you have to keep a positive balance at all times! Is there any way to dispute this?

I top up 1500 every 2 months or so as we have one account for our cars so if we had to bolt quickly then we would have to just lose it

but really, how much do you keep on your salik accounts... i only ever recharge by 500 aed and if i was selling my car i would either transfer the tag to the new owner or keep a minimum balance on it. The whole point is you *can't* transfer it.

It's a complete racket. You just have to plan to use it before you go, keeping a very low balance if you think you might be leaving. I can't believe they are still getting away with it, to be honest.

You can use it within 3 years if you come back but otherwise you lose it
