Dear Expat women, please be careful when dealing with the following company:

SALMEEN AL SUWAIDI LANDSCAPING L.L.C. (sometimes known as Salmeen Landscaping)

They have been building our pool and garden in the Arabian Ranches. We agreed to use them as they promised to complete the project in 50 days. 7 months later we are no-where near complete and have had to chase them and organise them, project manage them every step of the way. The whole thing has been very very stressful and of couse we have had no garden for over 6 months and it will be a long time until it is finished.

They have lied to us every step of the way. For example, they said they needed a large second payment for all the plants and trees and then turned up with a few shrubs a month later.

We moved so that our kids could have a lovely garden and a pool to enjoy but so far we have had 7 months living on a building site, workmen coming and going and staring at me and the children when we are in.. we have had to shut all our blinds.

I am really sorry for any family that might be using this company. No family should be lied to or treated in this way.

Since this is a complaint about a service she will need to go down with contracts, receipts etc and to fill out a form. The company will then need to go there and discuss it. Not a simple 'they won't refund my money for the vacuum cleaner' case. oh, I just faxed everything to them.

That's a really good point regarding the legal action. Our mistake was not getting the deadline put in the contract so 50 days which is what we were promised has turned into 180 and the work is still far from complete. However, I do feel that it's my duty to ensure that people are very careful when dealing with companies that do treat customers like this. The strain that this prolonged, costly and mis-managed project has caused my family is great and the right thing is trying to ensure that people dont do the same thing as we did. By all means use this company expat women, but insist on getting a deadline put into your contract otherwise be prepared to be dealing with them 6,7,8,9 months on.... edited by Mrs123 on 14/01/2011 It's a common mistake to make - absolutely, always get all the details of the work to be carried out in a written contract, namely (at the very least): - detailed description of the work to be carried out - price breakdown (materials and labour) - payment details - deadline - warranty period on workmanship (and plants dying because of poor workmanship in their planting should be covered by this!) If you have any other specifications, write them down and add them to the contract. If you leave one of these elements out, you are open to all kinds of things and won't have recourse because they were never mentioned so aren't a breach of contract. If a company hesitates or does not want to agree to such a contract, walk away. Contracts are there to protect both parties equally. Verbal contracts aren't worth diddly squat when you're parting with your hard-earned cash.

That's a very unfortunate situation, but I have to say, if you're now taking legal action against them, you've not done yourself any favours by posting this and going to the press. In fact, you've potentially undermined your case by doing so. You will not get the company shut down over this, however distressing it may be to you. You're not their only clients and there must be some satisfied ones out there. Inciting people to boycot them and telling one side of what could be a complex story in a very public manner could almost be considered libellous.
