It is only fair on the rest of the kids if the SN's are weeded out. We have had some cases in the past, and the school have had difficulty in getting the child to be pulled out of school and there were no special facilities, so these kids were holding everyone else down. If your kids already attend nursery, some schools go to the nursery and see them in their familiar surroundings.

No, but have heard good things and was very impressed when we we went for a tour last year. DD is our first, and DS will probably follow in 2013... Hopefully if all goes well, we may meet in September!

Yes, FS1, don't think so, (unless your DS name starts with an F). You've just mentioned the school before. Please tell us how it goes, and what is involved.

I actually think they are trying to assess for autism. They are looking for the signs of an autistic child so they can avoid accepting one. It is much easier to deny acceptance than to have to kick the child out later for not conforming. Not just autistic children any child with any special need. Yes, they would prefer to weed out special needs children because most schools do not have the facilities to cope with them. So therefore they would be doing a dis service to those children if they accepted them, although some schools are now looking at children with SN as a nice little money earner.

If you ask him what mummies say he replies "no no no no" and wags his finger

oh....and following on from FB sweetie....one of the things they prob will be asking is if he's likely to be out of nappies and independently toileting. Luck with that eh....am not sure the potty will fit in his school bag :D more worried about getting him off that bloomin' dummy before Sept! Can I come and toilet train him at your house???? pffft, why not? Spending a loving day cleaning up vomit, wee and poo here, whats one more to train? As for the dummy? I'd be more worried if starts calling it that effing dummy, lol! yep that will be next! who is vomiting? the wee and poo i can understand! baby is not used to food yet.

I wouldn;t worry about that i still see KS1 children walking into school with a dummy in their mouths, that is of course with maid surgically attached to the other end of it!

Depends on the school as well, many schools just use it as a money making scheme and accept anyway.

Yes, it is so strange that they do assessments here. What 2 year-old is going to start talking to an adult he/she has never even seen before? Can they really pick out a genius or a dud from such an assessment?

Depends on the type of assessment... my DS2 did one at 2 1/2 last year.. They got in a small group of children for a couple of hours into "Classroom" and observed the play and interraction. Was a much better way than the 1 on one my older one did several years before... he's not really one to be chatty with strangers but would have played nicely with other kids. Thankfully they both got into school!

So my baby boy has his assessment soon for FS1 starting in Sept. Surely this is very early? If they can get the dummy out of his mouth he might just say hi or "oh my god!" (his fav phrase at the moment courtesy of his older sister) You ask him what his name is he says "boy" :\: What on earth do they assess at this age? His motor skills maybe?...not that he can drive very well...he has a terrible time reaching the pedals.
