I just tried to do it with a Lufthansa ticket, we could not change the name or the routing, however we could have changed the date of travel for a small fee. Some tickets are partly refundable though, we were able to get a part refund on the ticket , so maybe check if the the ticket can be refunded. edited by mum2girls on 27/07/2011

No- airline tickets are not transferable in pretty much 99% of fares. They should ask if they can out their tickets in for a refund. It may only be a partial refund or will attract cancellation penalties but that is the best advice. Can they change the dates of the flight to later on when they might be able to travel?

Oh, how rotten but unfortunately you cannot change the name on tickets - only option is try for a refund or change date and again that can depend on what type of ticket you initially purchased. All the best.

I will contact the airline. Not looking at making any "extra" money on this at all (just so I'm clear) but also I thought that Christmas might be highly desirable... thanks

Hi, how sad that they are now unable to come. Unfortunately I don't believe air tickets are transferrable to other people (unless this person has the exact same name!), they might be able to change the dates.

Hi, my parents booked a flight to visit for 2 weeks in over Christmas but its likely that they can't come now. Is there any way that they can sell this ticket on to someone - if so, how do they go about doing this - is it simple? really would appreciate any suggestions as its a shame they will lose the money. This is not an insurance thing so they can't claim on that. look forward to your ideas please!
