Hi ladies,

I would like to sell my car which is registered in my husbands name. I understand you need the owners passport while you sell the car.

Is there anyway I can make this sell with my husband being away so much.

Many thanks

You can pay a company to do all this for you so i'm sure going through them you could do this quite easily. They have their office at the entrance of the Al Barsha test centre. Certainly worth a call. But not without the owner or POA. All it does it saves you having to present a few documents.

Hey Rosebud, Your husband just needs to go to the nearest courthouse to him, get a stamped power of attorney and mail it to you. It gives you the ability to act on his behalf. Yes, he needs to be in the country to transfer it. HTH

Thanks ladies. Does my husband need to be in the country to transfer the car to me? How can I get an apostilled power of attorney? Wikkid - i will take a good price on my husband. He comes highly recommended ;) I would imagine it's a 'yes' to both. I would also imagine there's a cost to both, you would need to work out which is cheaper as the cost to transfer the vehicle to you is the same as the cost to transfer to a new buyer. It can be done in less than an hour.

Thanks Elle for the info - useful to know. Agree the easiest is just to transfer into her name. I did chuckle though as the first time I read the post title, I read "selling husbands while he is away on business" and a fleeting thought was - who would willingly buy one! :D

Hi WIkkid and Rosebud- not quite- you actually need an apostilled power of attorney- DH and I just had it put in my name because the other was too much hassle. They won't accept an authorisation at the RTA now. HTH :)

Im pretty sure you just need a copy of his passport and a letter from him authorising you to make the sale on his behalf. In the authorisation letter though it needs to say his passport number and full name as well as your passport number and full name, and the details of the car. Something like this - "I JOE BLOGGS holding British Passport number 12345678 authorise my wife JANE BLOGGS holding British Passport number 87654321 to sell my 1988 RED FORD EXPLORER registration DUBAI F67890 on my behalf. Please accept this letter as authorisation to carry out the sale of the car and all subsequent transfers of ownership, cancellation of insurance and any other requirements as deemed necessary to conclude the transaction. Should you require any verbal verification, I can be contacted on 0097150 2345678. Yours sincerely Joe Bloggs" Its worth getting a couple of the above letter printed as you'll probably have to give one to the new owner, one to the RTA when doing transfer and one to the insurance company etc etc. I would also keep my original passport handy in case RTA or the likes wants to see it. Just been through similar with cancelling DEWA, Etisalat etc on our previous apartment and my husband not being here, but all was in his name. Hope the above helps :D. ETA obviously he will need to actually sign the letter and you'll need the originals :D edited by wikkid on 29/04/2012
