OK, here's the scoop. I went thru my receipt and ticked off everything DH bought. The only thing NOT on the list was the bag of potting sand. I just called DGC and they told me a bag of sand is 15 dhs -- mystery solved? I pointed out to the gal on the phone that it was listed as a service-labor charge, and she said the clerk may [b'>not have been able to find "the correct numbering code"[/b'>. OK, so I hereby take back what I said about their "service charge", but I sure hope they fix it!!
:) We've been caught out by that, too. Good to check receipt and goods.

Are they allowed to do that????? Unbelievable - and I bet it doesn't go to the person who breaks their back every day lugging heavy gear into our cars......
Totally think this way too. I bet the service fee goes nowhere near the person providing the service. I far rather would give money to the person himself - not the business. By the way, anyone knows what happens when yo tip petrol station guys? I remember few years back the petrol companies banned tipping. However I continue to tip them everytime when they put petrol inmy car. The tip should always go directly to the person doing the job.
It just seemed to show up on the bill. DH says he wasn't asked if he needed help, but the fellow had helped him locate the sand in the outdoor open area so was already visibly assisting him. I will call and ask if it's a new procedure...
So is this an automatic addition to the bill, or do they ask if you require assistance before they total the bill? Just wondered if this is billed to everybody regardless if you have a trolley load or a carrier bag?

I have always tipped the fellow or gal who helps me load up my car, especially if I have lots of heavy items. The other day my DH went to pick-up a couple of plastic pots, a bag of soil and a bag of sand. He also tipped the person who loaded the 2 bags into the car for him. I looked at the receipt when he got home and noticed as the very last item: Item #I15624 Service-Labor, 1 @ 15 AED. Can you believe this??? Has anyone else noticed this charge? That's about 10% of the total purchase. If that's the case, I will drive all the way to ACE at Festival City where the prices are better and I can make up my own mind about tipping.
