I am new here and we have recently moved to Dubai from the US. Are there any Costco-like (or perhaps Walmart-like)stores here where you all shop for cheaper priced essentials like toilet paper, paper towels, and so on? TIA.

I went to the Huggggeee Union Coop in Al Barsha and it was fab .. Good offers on at the moment as well. I dont know if this is because of Ramadan or it will remain that way but my overall shop was slightly less then Lu Lu which I shop at religiously ..

fnottle; next to Mall of the Emirates there is a place called LuLu Supermarket...most cab drivers know where this is if you dont have a set of wheels yet...if you do, Mall of the Emirates directions online will get you there....also, in Mall of the Emirates itself there is Carrefour as mentioned by members below. These are the closest to your area..you can also visit the mini/express Geant in Barsha/Tecom which has all basic essentials. Geant and Carrefour are owned by the same operator i think...a french group. For direction to Barsha/Tecom i suggest for the first trip ask a cabby to take you, as it may be slightly complicated in terms of directions for a newbie. edited by PN on 14/08/2011

Not really - can try Carrefour (often written as C4 on here) or union co-op.
