Situation with Iran - what would happen if 'something happened'?

I know we're not allowed to talk politics and that's not the reason for my thread - I was just looking for practical opinions on what would happen with expats if any kind of military action is taken against Iran?

The last month there have been several hints in the media that something is brewing (the last being yesterday saying the UK would support the US in any action taken).

What are the practicalities if something were to happen? Was anyone here in the Gulf War?

My worry is that my DH is a different nationality to me so if we needed to evacuate I don't think we would be allowed to go together.

Not scaremongering at all but just wondering about practical measures?

Iran is not Iraq or Afghanistan so war against Iran will generaly destabilize Asia, Europe and the Middle East. I do wish the US and UK would stop poking their noses into other countries. How many wars have we had in the last 10 years in the name of oil. Actually Iran is a key component to the region both politically and resource wise. Yes I know, that’s why I said a war with Iran will destabilize the whole region.

When things got heated during another Gulf situation, a long time ago, I remember the British Embassy arranging a flight, but only for those with British passports, and not those that held dual nationalities etc. But recently during the Libya crisis we heard of many countries helping out citizens of other countries. If it was really bad, then I think it would just be a mass evacuation with any country sending in planes etc to help out any expats. DGIT - I think this time you may be wrong. Just a feeling. Your posts thrive on suggestive subliminal messages when it comes to anything regarding the middle east and the goings on that the average expat is oblivious to. You always do it, most times you are way off base when it comes to the international politics of the region. It is my belief there is no way the west will even begin to consider physical action on this country at this time, the suggestions hyped by the media have come from un named sources from a certain country known for it's trouble making. The middle east is looking and wants stability, leaderships are making that happen. Gossip mongering helps no country, no region or person. The OP needs to relax and get on with her life, this is the UAE. All I said is that this time I have a FEELING. No messages there. The reason I have this feeling is that if there was ever a right time for the west to move in there, it would be now, whilst they are busy with their own internal issues. I certainly hope that they do not do anything. I remember the revolution and plenty fled from the UAE then.

Shin training, the OP is asking What would happen here if Iran was attacked hence my answer. Yes not all fiasco's are the west fault but Irak, Afghanistan and the biggest of all Palestine are the West 's making.

Sorry I was logged under Amanda's account this morning. We did stay here during the gulf war but took an informed decision. Our country put up 2 planes to evacuate all of us but we refused and made a visa to Oman just in case. We were a few die hard that stayed and it was just fine. I do not think the west will attack Iran after the Iraqi and afghani fiascos. There are many fiasco's all over the middle east region they are not all the wests fault. Not all is negative.

Seriously, if there is any safe place in the middle east, then it is the UAE:)) Bahrain has a totally different political situation. As for Iran, we are talking about a very powerful country resources wise and political wise, so the chance of what you are assuming to happen is really very slim, and besides have you seen how many Persian carpets are sold here:))) seriously you are living in the friendliest country in the middle east so do not worry!

We were here when irak invaded Kuwait. A lot of expats left some for good in the summer of the invasion, others were evacuated by their embassies. We decided to stay and it was OK. We were here also during the entire war between Iran and irak. I also know people who left here during the first war with Irak Also people saying nothing will happen. A couple of years ago someone told me that Bahrain was one of the most peaceful places in the world.... Bahrains issuesare not new, it was peaceful and will be again, the dynamics are very different. Lessons have been learnt, world economies are in trouble, no one will be rushing into another war. Diplomatic ways. edited by Domestic Goddess-in-training on 04/11/2011

Terrible things happen all over the world, sometimes in the "safest" environments.

My DH was also here during all those other invasions and he said in Dubai it was business as usual. Nothing changed.

From my knowledge, your DH would be able to evacuate with you and vice versa.
