I really want a slow cooker, but the thought of it in my apartment - which has no windows, only doors on to the balcony, it would make everything smell - so was wondering, would you ever leave it cooking outside (Ground Floor) to avoid having indoors smell??

Odd idea I know - but not sure I have any others - haha

TIA

I've cooked outside with it here in Dubai and in the US and never had a problem. I keep my oven mitts laid across the top of the lid and never an issue. haha - good thinking! Thanks

In the hotter months I put my slow cooker outside. I don't want any extra heat in the house and I've never had an issue with it being outside. I was just worried an animal might be intrigued by it - a wild one, bird, cat etc ....

I've got quite an old slow cooker, must be about 10 yrs old now and I really dislike the smell. It's great when you walk in and you think 'oooh, great that dinner smells yum' but then you realise it's all in amongst everything. I think maybe I just need a newer one which seals better. That is interesting - because that is exactly what I and OH thought - which is why he said NO - it could be an age thing!

We live in a VERY open plan apartment - do you have doors on your kitchen/? No fan in the kitchen either, just the cooker vent fan - that makes a racket Seriously, I have to lift the lid of the thing to smell anything.

If I think about it, we actually never leave the windows open and everything doesnt end up smelling. I guess the aircon neutralises it and plus do you not have a fan in your kitchen? Besides, everything we cook in it smells so delicous, its fantastic but the smell never "sticks" around after the food's been cooked. It really is a nice to have product. edited by Ilovecandy on 19/10/2014 Mine's on right now, beef stew for dinner. It's been cooking for three hours so far and no scent at all.
