Hello

I've been unable to find a narrow wine fridge in Dubai for the gap in my kitchen, so was thinking of having one delivered to my folks and bring it back to Dubai with me. It will be well within our luggage allowance and will be well packed in it's original packaging.

Having checked in alongside passengers carrying large TV sets, I assume that it won't be an issue, but if anyone has any personal experience of bringing appliances with them I'd love to hear.

Many thanks

FFx

I'm so glad I asked before I went ahead and bought it. Actually, I had gone ahead and bought it but my visa authorization code thing locked me out, so it didn't go through. It sounds like this gas thing could be an issue. I found out that my proposed appliance has R600a in it, so now investigating that. Thanks again! FFx

My son took a fridge with EK, from Dubai to London. It was in original box, clearly stating what it was , and there were no problems. I think it went as outsized baggage, but not sure.

Thanks All. I rang Emirates and explained what it was and they said it was fine, even checked with a supervisor. Must admit you have me freaked out about haz-mats etc. now. Will give it some more thought/research. FFx I think Haz Mat ( hazardous materials) refers to the gases in said fridge :-)

I have just read this It depends on the actual gas in the unit.. All haz-mat falls into one of nine 'classes' and then is sub-divided down from there.. Depending on what class it is *and* the amount it might be permitted.. it might not.. You need to know exactly what gas it is--- or better yet-- what is the haz-mat code or the four digit "UN" number that appears.. from here you should call the airline-- ask to speak with some one at their 'haz-mat' desk or a specialist.. The airlines all have employees who are specially trained and federally certified to approved and handle the transportation of these materials on their passenger aircraft. These folks could and would be able to give you a definitibve answer. There are some materials that are prohibited by Federal Law.. and as such, no carrier may accept for transport.. There are also some materials that ARE Federally approved, but the carrier voluntarily elects not to transport them (their right to do so).. Therefore, you need to know both parts.. is it Federally approved for transport on commercial aircraft *and* does YOUR airline allow it? The answer to both must be yes.. and the airlines would be qualified to make that determination

Would you be allowed to bring something like a fridge back due to the refridgerant in the pipes at the back? Also I wouldn't like to have it thrown around like they do with most luggage
