Husband and daughter residence visa done :). Mine delayed cos we just realized now that my British passport expires in March 2012 i.e less than 6 months which means the passport has to be renewed before the visa can be processed :(

If we send off the passport to the processing centre in Germany (as they are no longer renewed in Dubai) i am told it can take 4 weeks. I reeeeeally wanted to fly out and spend the Eid holidays with my Parents in Pakistan but fear the risk that Dubai immigration wont let me in if my British passport has less than 6 months validity.
Me and hubby made some enquiries with Dubai immigration and airport and we have been told over the phone that as long as the passport has at least 3 months validity on it, i SHOULD be ok. But we all know how moody the immigration lot at the desk can be.
Wondering if i could get this in writing or officially? maybe Dubai Airport? Any thoughts or recent similar experiences? Like i said really want to fly out but worried about the risk :(

Yeah I was thinking of trying to get in touch with someone in Germany and see what the time line is. Hopefully will email them and maybe get a positive response.

Is it really still 4 weeks though? It was at the height of activity before summer hols but must surely be back to 10 working days by now - have you called them to check?

I had a friend in a similar situation recently. The only option you have if you can't wait 4 weeks for your passport to come back from Germany is to take a trip home and get your new one there. An expensive option I know but if you leave the UAE now on your current passport you won't be let back if there is less than 6 months validity.

you don't need a visa. You can get an Egate card whils on a visit visa BUT your passport has to be from one of the 33 countries granted automatic visa on arrival to UAE (i.e. no paper visa required).

I believe It is the airlines responsibility to check validity of your passport at your departure point.

When does your residency visa expire? Surely you should be able to get back in if that is still valid. You can then do all the passport stuff 'last minute' then apply for your new residency visa in your new passport.

I left the UAE in the summer on a passport with 3 months remaining on it. I checked with Immigration before going to the airport and was told that I was fine to leave but would need a new passport to come back in. The immigration official who stamped my passport also told me that I only had a few months left and to get a new one but to be sure to bring both back as my residence visa was in the 'old' one.

From what i can see on their official website, you don't need a residence visa . Has any one ever had friends or family from the UK over with less than 6 months validity on their passport? lol i am hoping someone else has experienced this predicament and sailed through :)

I've heard you can get an e gate card even if you are not resident in Dubai, but just a regular visitor here.

That is a very risky strategy and to be honest, you may find that the people who issue the e gate cards will also require more than 6 months validity. An egate card can be obtained at the Dnata travel centre on SZR which is more or less beside the Metropolitan Hotel. It allows you to use the electric gates coming into and out of the country by scanning your fingerprints, however in my experience they quite often don't work and you end up having to show your passport anyway. It may be worth making an enquiry about getting an egate card, but its probably not a risk that I would take.

get an e-gate card and then no one looks at your passport.
