Well, we went with the recommendation and had a surprisingly nice meal. in fairness, the service wasn't great but there was nothing specifically bad about it either and never having been before, we didn't think anything of it, particularly as it is a food-court-y type of place. But I do have to wonder what it is with some posters and their fixation on other people's expectations? Is there anything wrong with having high expectations?? Sorry jewelsmiddle but you've had the same go at me over BAA so it seems to be a thing of yours.

Just got back from Tony Romas at Ibn Batuta. Yes, their BBQ ribs were yummylicious but .......perhaps not today :( Surprisingly the food we ordered weren't that great anymore. We are their regular customer at both outlets (Shk Zayed Road & Ibn Batuta Mall) and usually we will order almost the same food each time. We had Onion loaf for appetiser, Full slab BBQ spare ribs(turn out to be very salty), Shrimp scampi pasta(taste different), Alfredo Chicken pasta(very dry), Kids meal etc. The service was very slow, ineffecient considering there were less than 10 tables occupied. There were six of us, 2 adults. We were only given two side plates & cutleries, nothing for the kids. They only got their colouring paper & crayons. There were no nachos on the table (used to have bread rolls before), asked for it....but never received. The food arrived but yet no cutleries for the kids. We had to asked 2-3 times as they only bring a set each time. DH was not happy with the service, so he asked for the manager. After waited for about 10 mins, finally a lady came to our table and introduced herself as the Restaurant Supervisor. Cut the story short.... Just before we leave.....I ask for some wet tissues. But guess what.....we got 2 small bowls of water with a slice of lemon as they have no more tissues. Sorry all......just need to vent out as it was actually DH's birthday today & never thought their service were that bad. Just hoping they'll improve !! Sounds like things have not improved - we have been a couple of times and this is exactly our experience at tony romas.....no cutlery and you have to ask time and time again for stuff that should be on the table....after a couple of times we just accepted that tony romas at Ibn Battuta is not the place for us......

I wonder why customers expectations have got so high for the fair price they pay in places like this. Nothing wrong with paper and crayons for children. Just because they did not have wet tissues does not mean what was supplied was incorrect. It is normal to have bowls of water with lemon in certain types of restaurants to wash ones hands. Yes sounds like it was not a good experience but not everything was wrong just different from your expectations. High expectation ??? Oh please..........we are just asking for what we'll usually get whenever we dining out. Of course, it's just casual dining restaurant..... It's COMMON SENSE when the waiter sees 2 adults, child aged 10,8,5 & 16 mths toddler. Obviously, he supposed to provide atleast plate & cutlery set to my 10 yrs DS who are ordering from their regular menu and also highchair for my toddler(had to asked twice after waited for about 15 mins) We are Tony Roma's regular customer. We've been to many of their outlets around the world as well. For sure we know what to expect. Btw, of course.....there's nothing wrong about giving out colouring sheet and crayons for each child. Most restaurant does the same thing. Such as Fudruckers, Chilli's, TGI Friday etc. Nothing special about it...... just their kids menu on printed & some word puzzles to solved while waiting for the foods. I'm not asking for goody bags, soft toys, puzzzles.....etc. Just set of cutlery and side plate for each of them instead of asking 2-3 times. Well, I wouldn't mind if they provide bowl of water with lemon instead of wipes since day one, five years ago. I'm talking about their service quality who have so many outlets around the world. But can you tell me which restaurant that doing such thing? edited by agent oso on 22/05/2011

taken totally out of context jewels middle, as per. They were given ONLY the colouring mat and crayons, no cutlery. You cannot comment on the mat without including the lack of cutlery and then deem that her expectations were too high or out of the ordinary. And as I said, the poster had a reasonable expectation given her previous dining experience with the resturant to expect wipes, not fiddly bowls of water in which to clean up both her and her husband but several children as well. Yes, exactly......Well said. I wasn't ask for anything unusual. To jewelsmiddle : Obviously, being as their regular customer, I know what to expect in term of service standard and food taste. edited by agent oso on 22/05/2011

My post referred only to two things , the crayons and paper and the bowls of water. I was not posting about any other part of her experience. In my post, I noted it was not a good experience but not everything was wrong and that is in reference to the above two things I wrote about. but jewelsmiddle....it IS cutomary to be given cutlery, even for the small children, or do you expect them to eat with their fingers? If you read carefully for a change you will see that the poster had dined at the resturant before...so yes, she had reasonable expectations of the service and the quality of food she expected to receive.
