Can I puree cooked spinach for my six month old baby? What about kholarabi or beets?
If anyone has an experience, please shed some light. Thanks!

I was told something similar to Puffinlude re: nitrates, except the youngest was 4-6 months for spinach and other root & leafy vegetables (not 1 year). Maybe ask your doctor to be sure as it largely has to do with the soil the veggies are grown in (though organic veggies have it as well, just not supposed to be as much). So you might have to be more/less cautious depending on the region you live in.

Isn't that thing about spinach having so much iron supposed to be a fallacy - something to do with the War Ministry getting the decimal point wrong when typing up the nutritional values of veggies during WWII? Or is that an apocryphal story in itself?

Thanks ladies! I will try to mix small amounts with other vegetables... Thanks for the heads up about the nappies.

When I had my kids in Sweden many years ago I was told to wait with spinach until the baby was 1 year - although it contains iron (although not as much as meat) - some spinach contains a lot of nitrates from the soil or fertilizers that can harm very small babies - same with beets edited by Puffinlunde on 01/02/2011

You can for all of them howver as janesul said expect green and red nappies the next day. When I gave my two stronger vegetables like beets or spinach I mixed them with potato or cauliflower to tone them down. HTH :)

Spinach should be fine to puree. It's full of iron. Expect very cloggy, dark green nappies the next day though :D
