Hi, just got a villa in the springs and we don't think the AC is right - living room and both bedrooms have 2 vents in each but only one of the vents is blowing air out. The maintenance man has said that this is because one is an 'in' and the other an 'out' vent - is this right or do all of your vents blow out air??

Do the vents in the kitchen and bathroom ceilings also blow out air? We haven't moved in yet because we wanted it sorted first - far too hot to be in there as it is but maintenance have also said that it won't cool properly until we have curtains up and the air con on 22-23 constantly - are we being fobbed off?

We're new to Dubai so not used to AC, having come from the north of England!! I've read some comments on here about people cleaning their vents etc too - is this something we normally do ourselves rather than have maintenance do and can anyone give me tips on how to do it?

Any help/advice would be great - we desperately need to get in there and get our home set up ready for the arrival of our first baby in October!

Yes one blows in the cold air and the takes the hot air out. Before you move in get a good maintenance company to service thoroughly like Tool Time or hitches & Glitches. All the filters will be cleaned and washed and possibly re-gassed. You then need it serviced every 6 months. I live in springs and the upstairs does take a while to cool down say 2 days. If you have your A/C set at say 22 or 23 and it's still not cooling then something is wrong. With these springs villas they are old now and the AC is old but with persiverance you can get it fixed and working fine. I live in 3 bed and at night I just have on my bedroom and turn off in morning and then I leave the AC on in lounge for my dog all day. Good luck.

Yes that's correct one side sucks air in, the other blows it out.

I've heard the "one is in one is out" story before but cannot confirm anything I am afraid:-( When we come back from holidays; it does take 2 or 3 days of constant blowing AC to get the walls cool again in our place in Springs but normally we leave it off all day long and only when we come home from work do we switch the downstairs one on; gets really cold in 10 minutes and we put it up to 24. Upstairs we switch it on as we go to bed; it does take a little longer too cool upstairs (probably has to do with sun exposure as well) but after 20minutes all is fine and for the really HOT nights we bought an electric cooler fan (water based) that also serves the purpose of humidifier considering it gets soooooooo dry overnight when sleeping with AC.
