Good Morning!
I'd like a little advice and please don't hold back! My daughter will be turning 16 and I'd like to have a party for her. For her 15th she took friends skating then out for dinner. Prior to this it was family birthdays or the odd party with friends at our home. She's pretty low key but definately would appreciate something for her 16th. I have a few ideas but looking for more or just some advice.

- dhow cruise for her close friends (10 or so...don't know the price)
-pool party/bbq at the house with her gift being a trip to Venice or Istanbul (we get cheap tickets)
-slumber party at Jumeirah Beach Hotel, beach day (1 room and dinner for close friends 4)
-Wild Wadi and a weekend trip to Europe (remember, we get cheap tickets)

I know people that have rented the hummer limo and the girls/boys go crazy screaming and yelling out the windows for a couple of hours. Seems boring actually.

Any other suggestions? I'm really not good at planning parties! Not looking for an MTV sweet 16 type birthday with the BMW, diamonds and catering like it's a wedding!!;)

I agree that traveling with friends would be better! She's low key and pretty cool though. We went to Hamburg a few years ago and she was Miss Europe....watched people while enjoying hot chocolate at a cafe. A little shopping and sight seeing. No complaints! She is a horse back rider and I've seen something on the internet about the horses in the water but never knew where that was. I'm totally sold on that and breakfast/beach day at Jebel Ali too! I'll look into the boat idea too. I've seen all the dhows at the Creek but again wasn't exactly sure. Thanks for that tip!! I wasn't sure if a night at Jumeirah Beach was over the top or not? Glad to hear that someone thinks it's an okay idea!! We really do try and keep things real and not get carried away with the "expat lifestyle". And yes you can be my daughter pollydxb :)

I am not sure if your daughter is into horses, but Jebel Ali and the stables nearby do a swimming with horses in the morning, which would be fab, if into horses!! Could always afterwards have breakfast at the hotel and use the pool facilities!

Wow, wish you were my Mom!!! :) I love the boat/yacht cruise idea, I know I have been pushing this (I am not on commission) but the boat at Jebel Ali Resort called Divaz is for hire, you can book the whole thing, they will sort catering etc for anything you like, I think it is just fab. A friend of mine has thrown a few parties on their and it is so well organised. http://www.jebelali-international.com/properties/jagrs/MeetingsEvents/Divaz.aspx Other than that I think the night at a hotel with 4 friends, dinner sounds really cool. I think all the ideas are great! Do you think the trip to Venice or Istanbul or week-end in Europe could include one close friend of hers? In my experience, girls this age are in a world of their own and only slightly register what's happening with the rest of their family, and far prefer to experience things with a friend their own age than with the "oldies", if you see what I mean?
