I'm a teenager in Dubai who is looking to be more independent. Compared to other kids around the world, Dubai kids are alien to the work place. I understand there are visa issues, but with a letter of consent a teenager can work, within certain working hours.

When living in London, I dog walked and babysat frequently. I was wondering if there is still a demand for that here. I realise that I'd be in competition with hired maids, but I feel I can cater for those who do not have such service to hand.

I'm just a tad inquisitive about part time work in Dubai, generally.

Honestly, the income is irrelevant to me, I'm motivated by the desire to simply build my work experience, and I would love to help out families in the UAE - being the eldest of four I know how important it is for a mum to have a night out.

There is so much potential within the teenagers of Dubai and I refuse to let mine be wasted on hours online.

So does anyone have any tips for me on how I can work legally part time - they'd be most appreciated.

Hope you're all having a lovely summer,
From an unemployed yet ambitious sixteen year old

Here is a link to a GN article from 2008: http://gulfnews.com/news/gulf/uae/employment/young-expats-can-take-up-part-time-jobs-from-age-16-1.75958 You're allowed to work from the age of 16, for 6 hours a day, in limited types of work. With consent of the parent you can apply for a labour card.

What other sort of things can you do? I might have a lead for you. A friend of mine is looking for some team members for his office (sales, design, writing, etc). If anything fits, maybe he can help. But is it legal though? You said 'I understand there are visa issues, but with a letter of consent a teenager can work, within certain working hours.' and I'm not sure of this - have you verified this?

My teenagers have always worked here. If you have any sporting coaching qualifications, swimming experience , life guarding you could try the sports companies that provide summer camps . You could try nurseries to work as an assistant if you have experience dealing with youger siblings . Or of course if your parents know anybody in a management position that could get you some work . You could offer yourself on a free trial basis . At the end of the day the experience is what is more important to you at this age . There are jobs out there but they are hard to find . Keep persevering and you will suceed !
