No allowance, just chores to be completed for stuff needed, it's called a work ethic.

We have a little book for our 14 year old DD and we add in 50dhms per week. Out of this she pays for her phone-top ups, any computerised games, and anything above what I buy for her clothing - ie If she fancies a pair of trainers and she has already got a pair that I have bought, then she pays for the extra pair herself. This stops her having clothes and not wearing them, then getting me to buy more lol. She does not necessarily do chores for this 50 dhms as I would have had to have done at her age, but that is mainly due to how we now live out here in Dubai. However, if she does something extra like cleaning the car, or making me a nice cuppa, I will add a few extra Dhms in her little book. On the other-hand, if she has an attack of PMT and is rude (typical teenage syndrome) she gets money knocked off. We have found this way to be the best way for saving. She would like an IPOD and it is not her birthday until November so I do not believe in purchasing big things outside of birthdays and xmas, therefore, this is what she is saving for and has already got 1000dhms. She loves seeing the amounts build up, and if she wants to purchase anything for herself, she really thinks about whether or not she really needs it and nine times out of ten, she decides that she doesnt.

kids grown and gone :)..but. Set amount. and 10% must go into savings and when they have run out, its gone. You will have to sit down and figure out what it is she needs and then what she wants :). The 10% savings could be for what she wants. Lots of incentive. Teach them now for when they are on their own and they will handle their money without asking from their parents :)

1st Off remember how u were brought up! I know the teenagers here cant go out and work at Maccas for their money but they can do chores at home. They do have to know how to vacuum, iron, clean, cook and prepare the vegs for dinner etc etc. 2nd agree with OH what u think is a amount and what she has to pay for. I ave a son who I give 100dhs per week but he needs to pay for his own phone credit, movies, taxis, fun things etc.If he wishes to buy a X Box game then he needs to save some of his allowance. I know girls want more for make up,clothes and personal items but really sit down and budget it out like we all do with our wages.

Ladies - would love to hear how you handle your teenage daughter's allowance / spending money here in Dubai. My daughter, 16 in March, seems to have her hand out every day. Would love feedback on how you handle your girl's spending money - is it earned (if so what amounts are set for what responsibilities); is it a set amount weekly (if so, what is a reasonable amount), is it on an "as needed" basis? TIA for your valuable input!
